Spanish Open, schedule

The arrival of this trio of champions—each with a distinct profile and a career defined by major victories and memorable performances—adds experience, personality, and an extraordinary competitive pedigree to a tournament of immense international stature, one that has consistently proven its ability to attract many of the world’s biggest golf stars. Patrick Reed will once again be a major focal point in Madrid. The American, winner of the 2018 Masters Tournament, is intimately familiar with the Madrid venue and the atmosphere of the Spanish Open, having previously delivered standout performances there. The U.S. golfer has nine PGA Tour victories to his name, and his triumph at Augusta established him as a key figure of the generation that has dominated world golf over the last decade.

Joining him is Francesco Molinari, a leading light of Italian golf in recent decades. The Italian reached the pinnacle of his career in 2018 by winning The Open Championship at Carnoustie, becoming the first Italian player to claim a Major title.

Molinari also boasts two Italian Open victories and an extensive Ryder Cup record, having played a pivotal role in the European team’s 2018 triumph. His precision, experience, and competitive drive add an extra layer of appeal to the challenge posed by the demanding Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid course.

The third major name announced is Bubba Watson, one of American golf’s most charismatic players, boasting an impressive list of achievements. The left-hander from Florida won the Masters Tournament twice—in 2012 and 2014—establishing himself as one of his generation’s premier specialists at the season’s first Major. His power off the tee, creativity around the course, and unique approach to the game have made Watson one of the most recognizable players on the international stage.

It will be fascinating to see how each of them adapts their distinct playing styles to the unique characteristics of this historic Madrid course—originally designed by Javier Arana—which once again serves as a magnificent setting for a top-tier showdown.
