Maestro Luigi Zappa has passed away, leaving behind his loved ones. Born in Monza, he was 57 years old. Coming from a family with deep, historic ties to golf, he dedicated his entire life to the sport—specifically to teaching. He turned professional in 1990 and, in 1995, qualified as a golf instructor through the National Golf School. He was based at the Adriatic Golf Club Cervia, where, among other responsibilities, he coordinated and coached the Youth Club as well as the men’s and women’s competitive teams.

Luigi Zappa, bio

Highly regarded as a specialist in the short game, he collaborated over the years with the Italian Golf Federation. Together with his cousins—Nicola, Carlo, and Roberto (the latter currently serving as Technical Director for the Italian national teams)—he co-founded the Golf School Zappa, which later evolved into the Italian Golf Academy, a prominent institution for golf instruction in Italy.

During this time of great sorrow, the Italian Golf Federation—joined by the entire national golfing community and all those who had the privilege of knowing him and appreciating his profound human qualities—stands with his family, offering its most sincere and heartfelt condolences.

The Rules of Golf are a set of standard regulations and procedures according to which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews—the governing body for golf worldwide, excluding the United States and Mexico, which fall under the jurisdiction of the United States Golf Association (USGA). An expert committee, composed of members from both the R&A and the USGA, oversees and refines the rules every four years. The most recent revision has been in effect since January 1, 2016. Changes to the Rules of Golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve clarity and understanding, and those that, in certain instances, reduce penalties to ensure a fair balance. The rulebook, titled «Rules of Golf,» is published on a regular basis and also includes regulations governing amateur status. In Italy, the Italian Golf Federation (Federgolf) is responsible for overseeing competitions and ensuring compliance with the rules established by the R&A; it monitors adherence to these regulations by golf clubs, associations, and their registered members, manages any resulting sports-related disciplinary matters, and safeguards their interests abroad.
