Scottie Scheffler will arrive at the Tour Championship with another chance to end his 2026 season on a high and add another trophy to what has already been a very consistent year.

The world No. 1 has won twice on the PGA Tour this season, but his overall numbers show how rarely he has produced a poor week. Scheffler has recorded 12 top-five finishes from 19 starts and has finished inside the top 25 in 18 of those events.

He has also missed only one cut.

That level of consistency has kept the 30-year-old in the conversation for the PGA Tour Player of the Year award, even though some of his rivals have collected more eye-catching wins at different points of the season.

Wyndham Clark and Cam Young are among the players who could also improve their chances with a big result at East Lake.

Scheffler, however, believes one part of his game is often overlooked when people discuss what makes him successful.

For the experienced American, it is not only about winning. It is about the way he competes every single week.

Scheffler says his consistency is ‘underrated’

Speaking ahead of the Tour Championship, Scheffler was asked whether he would trade some of his consistency for more wins.

He was not particularly interested in discussing the hypothetical situation.

“The hypothetical game is not something I really love playing,” the world No. 1 said.

“I think over the course of my career, I feel like one thing I’m most proud of is my consistency week in and week out. I think that’s something that I take a lot of pride in.

It’s not easy to show up every single week and play the way that I play and play the intensity that I play and that I bring to each and every tournament. That’s something I’m really very proud of.”

Scheffler stressed that he does not enter events simply to make up the numbers.

“Like if I’m showing up for a tournament, I’m not showing up for any other reason other than to do my best and give myself a chance to win that golf tournament. This is a year where I’ve given myself some opportunities, but I’ve also battled really hard to get myself back into some reasonable finishes at tournaments.”

The former Masters champion then pointed to his most recent event as an example.

“You look at a week like last week where I came in not feeling my best. Basically, my motto is just get through the first couple days. I’ve won golf tournaments injured before, and I get off to a bad start, don’t really get off to a good start again on Friday, but I battled and still almost got myself into the top 10 of the tournament.”

That type of result is exactly what Scheffler believes fans may not always notice.

“Stuff like that, I take a lot of pride in. I take a lot of pride in competing my hardest week in and week out. I think that’s something for me is underrated at times. It’s not as simple as playing smart or playing conservatively. It’s about, I think, bringing intensity to each and every week that I play, and it’s something that I’m very proud of.”

Scheffler still has a lot to play for at East Lake

The statistics certainly support Scheffler’s point.

Across his 19 PGA Tour starts in 2026, the American has two wins, 12 top-five finishes and 18 finishes inside the top 25.

He is also inside the top eight in strokes gained total, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approach and strokes gained putting.

Scheffler ranks fifth in strokes gained around the green and first in scrambling, showing that there are very few areas of his game that have caused him big problems this season.

That consistency has kept him in the Player of the Year race.

Brandel Chamblee recently argued that Scheffler should already be considered the clear choice for the award, although Clark and Young could make the debate quite different if either of them wins the Tour Championship.

Scheffler himself appears more focused on the tournament than on the award.

The 30-year-old has already shown many times that even an average week by his standards can end with a top-10 or top-20 result.

East Lake now gives him one final chance to turn another consistent season into something bigger. A win at the Tour Championship would not only give Scheffler a third PGA Tour victory of the year, but it could also put him in a very good position to win the Player of the Year award for a fifth consecutive season.
