DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings has warned LIV Golf players that they will have to decide where they want to play in 2027, as the European circuit is preparing to introduce new membership rules.
Players who sign contracts with LIV Golf for next season will not be allowed to hold DP World Tour membership, ending an arrangement that previously allowed some golfers to compete on both circuits.
Since LIV Golf was launched in 2022, the European tour has taken a different approach from the PGA Tour.
While the American circuit suspended players who joined the Saudi-backed league, the DP World Tour allowed some of its members to continue competing, although they had to accept fines, suspensions or other conditions.
Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton were among the golfers who received conditional permission to participate in both competitions.
However, that arrangement will no longer be available to those who decide to join the new version of LIV Golf.
Speaking about the decision, Kinnings explained that players have to respect the regulations if they want to remain members of the European circuit.
«Players need to make a choice,» Kinnings said.
«We have rules and regulations which are there to protect our tour and which our members must all abide by.
Players who are not willing to comply with our rules and regulations should not be seeking to join our tour.»

According to the new approach, golfers will be required to disclose their plans for next season when applying for membership.
Players who do not reveal their LIV Golf commitments and later compete in the league could have their DP World Tour membership terminated.
The European circuit has set November 16 as the deadline for membership applications.
LIV Golf players face another Ryder Cup problem
The decision could also affect several European golfers hoping to represent their continent at the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland.
Players must be DP World Tour members to be eligible for Europe’s team, meaning those who commit to LIV Golf next year would not meet that requirement.
Hatton is one of the players facing a decision.
The Englishman has represented Europe in the last two Ryder Cups under captain Luke Donald and was part of the team that defeated the United States at Bethpage Black in September 2025.
He has continued playing on the DP World Tour while also competing in LIV Golf events.
However, the new regulations mean that the 34-year-old cannot continue with the same arrangement if he signs up for LIV Golf’s planned relaunch.
Other golfers who have held DP World Tour status while playing on LIV include Tom McKibbin and Victor Perez.
Rahm was another player who used the conditional release system.
The former world No. 1 joined LIV Golf in December 2023 after reportedly agreeing to a contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Despite his move, the Spaniard continued competing in some European tour tournaments and represented Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup.
But Rahm now appears set to leave LIV Golf.
Earlier this month, his lawyer confirmed that the two-time Grand Slam tournament equivalent in golf, the major championship winner, did not accept the proposed terms of LIV’s new structure.

The Spaniard’s representatives and LIV officials have been working on an agreement that would allow him to leave the league.
Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia is another golfer whose future has changed.
The 46-year-old requested the termination of his LIV Golf contract, and that request was granted during the league’s bankruptcy proceedings.
Garcia has previously spoken about wanting to return to the European Ryder Cup team in 2027.
The Spanish veteran holds the competition’s all-time points record, although he would need to satisfy the eligibility requirements and earn his place on the team.
LIV Golf faces important October deadline
The announcement arrives while LIV Golf is trying to secure its future after losing financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The league filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and is now working on a plan to return in 2027.
BC Partners Credit has offered potential financing of up to $300 million to support the proposed relaunch.
The new competition would focus more on team ownership, with players being offered equity in the league and its teams.
However, LIV Golf needs enough players to accept the new arrangements before it can proceed.
The deadline for golfers to commit to the new league is October 25.
Several former major champions have yet to confirm their plans.
Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith are among the players whose representatives have sought clarification about existing contracts during the bankruptcy process.

Meanwhile, Richard Bland has publicly expressed his intention to remain with the league.
The veteran English golfer previously explained that his playing options were limited because of his age.
LIV officials have remained optimistic about the future of their competition despite losing some established names.
Ted Goldthorpe, the head of BC Partners Credit, recently said that he was confident the league would have enough players to continue.
The DP World Tour is also negotiating its strategic partnership with the PGA Tour.
At present, the leading 10 eligible players on the European circuit’s season-long standings can earn PGA Tour cards for the following season.
However, the PGA Tour is planning changes to its structure, and the number of European players receiving cards could be reduced.
For golfers considering LIV Golf’s new contracts, the next few weeks will be important. They must make their LIV decision by October 25, while the DP World Tour membership deadline is November 16.
