Kevin Kisner has admitted that he never understood Jon Rahm’s decision to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf in December 2023, claiming that the Spaniard had a completely different situation compared to Bryson DeChambeau.
The American golfer recently appeared on the Fore Play Podcast, where he spoke about Rahm’s move to the Saudi-backed circuit and questioned why the former Masters champion was willing to leave the PGA Tour during the best years of his career.
Kisner believes that competing against the world’s best players in front of millions of viewers is something money cannot replace. The 42-year-old recalled his own experiences and explained why those moments were so important to him.
«Why would that guy not want to be going toe to toe with Scottie Scheffler at The Players Championship on Sunday at 29 years old, in the prime of his career with eight million people viewing between 4 and 6 pm, instead of 80,000 like we talked about earlier? It’s just outrageous to me,» Kisner said.
Rahm was one of the biggest names in golf when he announced his decision to join LIV. He had won the Masters earlier in 2023 and was regularly competing for titles against players such as Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.
The Spaniard reportedly received a contract worth approximately $350 million, although he had previously stressed that money wasn’t the most important thing in his career.
Kisner recalled competing against Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler in a playoff at the 2015 Players Championship, describing the experience as something he had worked toward throughout his life.
The American said that the financial reward wasn’t nearly as important as competing against famous players while the golf world was watching.

Kevin Kisner compares Rahm and DeChambeau
During the podcast, the four-time PGA Tour winner also explained why he viewed DeChambeau’s departure differently from Rahm’s.
The 2020 US Open champion joined LIV Golf in June 2022, while the Spaniard waited another year and a half before making the same decision.
«The Rahm deal had to be all financial, right? Because he was well-liked on the tour, prime of his career, top-five in the world when he went, no real reason to leave. Bryson left, we all knew why, that’s what I just never understood with his decision,» Kisner said.
DeChambeau had experienced several disagreements and controversies during his time on the PGA Tour, including his rivalry with Brooks Koepka.
Rahm, on the other hand, was one of the most recognizable players on the circuit and had already collected two major championships before joining LIV.
In 2022, the Spanish golfer said that an offer of $400 million wouldn’t change his lifestyle and that he wanted to focus on his legacy.
However, he changed his position in December 2023, claiming that the opportunity offered by LIV was something he had to consider for himself and his family.

Since joining the league, Rahm has experienced a lot of success in its individual competition.
The 31-year-old won three consecutive season-long individual championships between 2024 and 2026. He also helped Legion XIII become one of LIV’s most successful teams.
His performances in the four major championships have been less consistent, although he finished tied for second at the 2026 PGA Championship.
Kisner believes PGA Tour has continued without Rahm
Another thing Kisner mentioned was how the PGA Tour managed to continue attracting talented players despite losing several familiar names.
«He thought he was going to be the bridge guy, and they just moved on, and the PGA Tour continued to succeed without him, and they just brooded the next superstar like they always do,» Kisner said.
The American specifically mentioned Jackson Koivun, who has attracted interest after making his way onto the professional circuit.
Kisner questioned whether Rahm’s absence from regular PGA Tour events could eventually affect how fans remember him.
Meanwhile, there has been another development in the Spanish golfer’s career.
On October 7, Rahm’s lawyer John Beck informed a New Jersey bankruptcy court that his client had decided not to participate in LIV Golf’s proposed new version, which is being prepared for 2027.
«Mr. Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0 and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him,» Beck said.
The decision followed LIV’s financial problems and its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in September. The league has been working on a restructuring plan after losing financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

A proposed investment of up to $300 million from BC Partners Credit could help LIV continue operating, although its future structure is quite different from the original competition.
Rahm isn’t the only golfer who has decided against joining the new project. Sergio Garcia and Adrian Meronk have also indicated that they don’t intend to continue with LIV.
The Spaniard’s future remains uncertain, with questions about whether he could return to the PGA Tour and what conditions would apply.
Kisner also questioned the financial side of Rahm’s original decision, wondering whether the move had been worth everything he had given up.
For Rahm, the next step is finding a place where he can continue competing regularly while trying to add another major championship to his collection.
The two-time major winner hasn’t announced a complete schedule for 2027, but he remains eligible to compete on the DP World Tour.
