Bryson DeChambeau has continued to give golf fans something to think about as questions remain over where he will play in 2027.

The American has spent a lot of time on his content away from regular tournaments in recent weeks. His latest project was Bryson’s Backyard Games, a competition played at his own property and involving several golf content creators.

The format included one-hole matches and eventually a chance to play DeChambeau for $100,000.

It was another example of how much attention the two-time US Open champion has given to his online work in recent years. His YouTube channel has become a big part of his career and he has previously admitted that focusing on content while playing the Grand Slam tournaments could be an option one day.

That subject has become even more interesting because DeChambeau has not yet confirmed where he will play next season.

The 33-year-old’s LIV Golf contract runs through the end of 2026, while reports in recent weeks claimed he has been going back and forth over joining the new version of the league in 2027.

DeChambeau has spoken about YouTube before

The idea of DeChambeau spending more time on YouTube did not start with his latest Backyard Games project.

Earlier this year, he was asked whether playing Grand Slam tournaments and focusing mainly on his online content could become his future.

DeChambeau described that possibility as an “incredibly viable option.”

His position was quite different from many other top golfers because he already had a very large audience away from professional tournaments.

The former PGA Tour player has produced several popular series over the years, including Break 50, while working with other professional golfers, celebrities and content creators.

Back in January, DeChambeau also had a possible route back to the PGA Tour.

The organization created its Returning Member Program after Brooks Koepka left LIV Golf. DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith were among the few players who were also eligible to use the program.

DeChambeau did not take the offer before the February deadline.

“I’m contracted through 2026, so I’m excited about this year,” he said at the time.

However, he did not completely close the door on doing something different later.

“Whether I’m here or not next year, I’m excited for this year, playing and competing with some of the best players in the world, competing in the majors, and then giving it my all every single week I tee it up, no matter where I’m at.”

The PGA Tour has since indicated that it has no current plans to reopen the same returning program.

LIV Golf is trying to build its next version

DeChambeau’s decision has become more important because LIV Golf itself has gone through many changes this year.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund confirmed earlier in the season that it would stop financing the league beyond 2026.

DeChambeau admitted in May that the decision surprised the players.

“We didn’t really see that coming. But that’s OK. One door closes, another opens. I think that’s the way a lot of us are looking at it,” he said.

The American also stressed at the time that he still believed in the team format used by LIV.

“We’ll see if investors like it or not. I’m giving all I can to make it happen, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t happen.”

LIV later filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and started working on a different business structure for 2027.

BC Partners Credit has now agreed to provide up to $300 million as LIV tries to continue under a new model. The plan includes more player ownership and a smaller 10-event schedule, but commitments from leading names remain an important part of the process.

DeChambeau is one of those names.

Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka

He has been one of LIV Golf’s most recognizable players since joining in 2022 and has also remained competitive in the major tournaments. His second US Open title in 2024 also guaranteed him a place in that Grand Slam tournament for several more years, while his earlier wins and exemptions keep him in the other big events.

His online career gives him another option that most professional players do not have.

That does not mean DeChambeau is preparing to stop playing regular golf. There has been no announcement from him suggesting that.

However, his growing focus on projects such as Backyard Games comes at a time when his competitive future beyond 2026 is not yet settled.

DeChambeau now has some time to think carefully about his next steps and make the best decision for his career.

Opinions are divided. Some believe the experienced American remains fully focused on his challenges in golf, while others are not so sure about what comes next.

There are also questions over whether Bryson could eventually devote himself mainly to his YouTube career and either reduce his golf schedule or move away from competitive golf almost completely.
