Jon Rahm will not continue with LIV in 2027. The Basque golfer’s lawyers announced this during a hearing at a U.S. bankruptcy court. The news comes amidst LIV’s financial troubles, as the league continues to seek funding solutions to mitigate the crisis.

«Mr. Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms for LIV 2.0 and determined that they are unacceptable to him. For this reason, he will not participate in LIV 2.0 moving forward,» stated Rahm’s lawyer, John Beck, during the latest hearing in LIV’s restructuring process.

Rahm’s legal team is working to finalize his departure before October 15, as the specific terms of the Spaniard’s exit from the circuit still need to be established. It is estimated that more than $100 million remains outstanding from the contract he signed—a deal originally valued at over $500 million starting in 2024. LIV’s new reality, following its economic and funding struggles, has been a key factor in the Spanish golfer’s change of direction. LIV Golf was founded in 2022 with funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). This backing has been the foundation of its operations in recent years. However, in April of this year, the PIF announced it was withdrawing financial support for the tour, forcing LIV to seek new investors to keep the operation running.

This new reality pointed toward a potential agreement between LIV Golf and BC Partners Advisors regarding a financial restructuring—contingent on at least fifty percent of the tour’s players supporting the deal’s terms within a thirty-five-day window. That will not happen in the Spaniard’s case; Rahm’s decision deals a major blow to the LIV tour and its future.

A significant factor appears to be the lack of a promising future for the LIV tour as it was currently structured. Plans were in place to cut the schedule to just ten tournaments, resulting in a corresponding reduction in prize money. This situation seems to have been a key factor in Rahm’s decision.

Consequently, the Spanish player must now determine the best path forward for his career. He remains a member of the DP World Tour—where he can compete without issue—but not the PGA Tour; a potential return there would require negotiating financial terms, given that he had previously declined to join the circuit in recent months.

Based on recent negotiations with other players, the PGA Tour has sought to impose a one-year suspension starting from the date of the player’s last LIV Golf tournament. If this were applied to Rahm, he would be unable to play on the U.S. tour—subject to specific conditions—until August 2027. It remains to be seen whether the two parties can reach an agreement.

Thus, Rahm concludes his time with LIV Golf, a circuit he had joined ahead of the 2024 season with what was then the most lucrative contract in the sport. He has won the three editions he has played—in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Over those three years, he has secured four tour victories but managed only four top-10 finishes across eleven majors.

With the LIV season now concluded, Rahm was waiting to resolve his future with an eye on the final tournaments of the DP World Tour season. The process is now expected to accelerate: the major decision has been made, and the Barrika native will need to find a primary tour for the immediate future.
