The financial firm BC Partners Credit announced an investment of €300 million in the new LIV 2.0 golf project—the league that Saudi Arabia stopped funding last August following the conclusion of the season.

In a statement, BC Partners Credit noted that the fund aims to facilitate LIV’s restructuring process on a «solid, sustainable, and team-oriented» financial foundation, with the goal of securing its future from 2027 onwards.

Liv Golf, future

The private credit firm’s announcement comes a month after LIV filed for bankruptcy in a New York court and outlined key aspects of its new project, which envisions players becoming co-owners of both the tour and its constituent teams, as well as having a say in the design of the competition. «Giving players a real and active stake in the league and the teams is a unique opportunity in professional golf and aligns everyone around the long-term success of the product, for both the sport and the fans,» says Ted Goldthorpe, head of BC Partners Credit.

For the financial firm, LIV’s team-based format—a hallmark of the league since its inception in 2022—along with the absence of a cut in tournaments, offers «a unique and valuable experience that can complement and strengthen the broader golf ecosystem.»

«We invite those who want to help build a solid and sustainable golf league to join us,» adds Goldthorpe.

Among the major stars still tied to LIV by contract are Spain’s Jon Rahm and the United States’ Bryson DeChambeau, although neither has yet confirmed whether they intend to remain involved with the new project.

In the case of Rahm—LIV’s largest creditor, owed $7.4 million (approximately €6.5 million) according to documents filed following the bankruptcy petition—he stated on the 15th that he would not clarify until the end of the season whether or not he will participate in LIV 2.0. …stating that «a long legal process» must be resolved «before many things can be finalized.»
