Jon Rahm has decided that his time with LIV Golf is coming to an end after three seasons.
The Spanish golfer will not be part of the new version of the league in 2027, with his lawyer confirming that the proposed terms were not acceptable to the two-time Grand Slam tournament winner.
The 31-year-old joined the Saudi-backed circuit in December 2023, signing one of the most expensive contracts in golf history. Rahm was one of the leading names on LIV Golf and won the individual season championship three years in a row.
However, the situation has changed a lot over the last few months. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund decided to stop financing LIV Golf, and the organization filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September.
The league is currently working on a different format for next year, with fewer tournaments and more ownership opportunities for players.
Rahm’s lawyer, John Beck, confirmed the decision during a bankruptcy hearing in New Jersey on Wednesday.
«Mr. Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0… and has determined that those terms are unacceptable to him, and he will not be participating going forward in LIV 2.0,» Beck said.
Rahm and LIV Golf are now negotiating a separation agreement. The two parties hope to reach a deal by October 15, although it is not certain that everything will be resolved by then.
If an agreement is not reached, the matter could return to court on November 5.

The former world No. 1 reportedly signed a contract worth around $300 million when he joined LIV Golf. His original agreement also had several years remaining.
The Spaniard is listed as the league’s largest unsecured player creditor in the bankruptcy proceedings, with around $7.5 million owed to him.
It is not known exactly where Rahm will play most of his tournaments next year. A return to the PGA Tour has already been mentioned as a possibility, while the DP World Tour could also be an option.
Rahm has previously spoken about LIV Golf’s future
Earlier this year, Rahm admitted that he was unsure what would happen with LIV Golf after the announcement that Saudi funding would end.
Speaking before the PGA Championship in May, the former Masters winner insisted that he did not regret his decision to leave the PGA Tour in 2023.
«I was never thinking that I was going to be any sort of weight that would tip the scales to make things come together,» Rahm said.
«If the terms change afterward, like it’s happened with LIV that things changed a little bit, it’s an afterthought, not a problem from the choice. I would say that elements have changed a little bit. That’s it.»
At the time, the experienced Spanish golfer also stressed that he preferred to concentrate on his performances rather than the problems surrounding the competition.
«My job is to play golf, and that’s what I can focus on. It’s the people in charge of LIV, whose job I do not envy for a second, not now, and not when things are going well, it’s their job to fix it,» he said.
Rahm had a successful period on LIV Golf, winning the individual season championship in 2024, 2025 and 2026.
The former Masters champion won two tournaments during the 2026 season and finished at the top of the individual standings again.
Despite those results, he has not been able to add another Grand Slam tournament title since winning the Masters in 2023. His first victory at that level arrived at the US Open in 2021.

The situation with LIV Golf is not the only issue Rahm has faced this year. He also had a disagreement with the DP World Tour over fines and conditions for players competing in both competitions.
In March, the Spaniard criticized the conditions offered to LIV members who wanted to continue playing on the European circuit.
«I don’t know what game they’re trying to play right now, but it just seems like in a way they’re using our impact in tournaments and fining us and trying to benefit both ways from what we have to offer,» Rahm said.
The 31-year-old later reached an agreement with the DP World Tour in May, helping him maintain his eligibility for the 2027 Ryder Cup.
What happens next with LIV Golf?
Rahm’s departure arrives at a difficult moment for LIV Golf, which is trying to prepare a new competition for 2027.
The organization recently announced an agreement involving BC Partners Credit, with plans to provide up to $300 million in financing. The investment remains subject to the necessary approvals during the bankruptcy proceedings.
The new competition is planned to feature 10 tournaments, including events outside the United States. Players would also have an opportunity to own equity in the league.
Several other well-known golfers have also been dealing with questions about their futures. Sergio Garcia and Bryson DeChambeau are among the players whose situations have received attention in recent months.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has maintained that the organization can continue operating under the new structure.
Rahm, meanwhile, has not announced a full schedule for 2027. The Spaniard remains eligible for the Ryder Cup under his agreement with the DP World Tour, but his next steps in professional golf are not confirmed.
The 2027 Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in Ireland, where Europe will try to retain the trophy against the United States.
