Former Tiger Woods coach Butch Harmon believes the PGA Tour needs to do a better job of promoting its younger players, as many golf fans are still unfamiliar with some of the talented golfers competing on the circuit.
The 83-year-old American has spent more than six decades in professional golf, working with some of the most famous names in the sport.
Harmon previously coached Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Greg Norman and several other Grand Slam champions.
Speaking on the No Laying Up Podcast, the experienced instructor praised the new generation of golfers but claimed that the PGA Tour was not doing enough to introduce them to fans.
«I think we have the best crop of young players we’ve ever had. They’re unbelievable. That’s the plus side. The downside for TV is that nobody knows who these players are,» Harmon said.
«They’ll turn on the TV, and if some of the stars aren’t up there, and they see these guys 20, 23, under, they go, I don’t know who that is, and they change the channel.»
The former Woods coach stressed that television coverage and promotion could help younger players become more familiar to golf fans.
«So I don’t think the PGA Tour does a good enough job of promoting the younger players through special stuff where you can learn about their lives and stuff.»

Harmon has watched many generations of golfers during his coaching career, including the period when Woods and Mickelson attracted a lot of attention around the world.
However, both veterans are now far less involved in regular PGA Tour competition than they were during their best years.
The 83-year-old believes there are many young golfers capable of achieving success, not only in the United States but also on other professional circuits.
«If you look at young players on the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, the Asian Tour, they’re unbelievable these kids. There are a lot of them, and there are more of them coming,» he said.
«So the game is changing completely to what it used to be because the big stars are not there anymore. Tiger’s gone, Phil’s gone. All the other guys are gone. You know, all the ones you grew up with are all on the Champions Tour now.»
Young golfers are already achieving success
One of the younger players who has attracted attention this season is Jackson Koivun, the 21-year-old American who won his first PGA Tour tournament in July.
The former Auburn University golfer claimed the 3M Open title after finishing at 25 under par, three strokes ahead of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Koivun played the final two rounds without recording a bogey, shooting 61 on Saturday and 66 on Sunday.
His victory arrived only a few weeks after he turned professional, making him one of the youngest PGA Tour winners in recent years.
Another player who has enjoyed a successful 2026 campaign is Michael Brennan.

The 24-year-old American won the Wyndham Championship in August before adding another title at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan earlier this month.
Brennan finished the Wyndham Championship at 22 under par and secured a three-shot victory over his nearest competitors.
His victory also helped him qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs after he had entered the tournament outside the top 100 in the season standings.
The young golfer continued his good form during the playoffs, finishing tied for tenth at the BMW Championship.
Brennan is now a three-time PGA Tour winner, having previously claimed his first title at the 2025 Bank of Utah Championship.
Both Americans are among the players who could become familiar names to golf fans in the coming years.
Harmon and his previous work with Woods
Harmon is remembered by many golf fans for his successful partnership with Woods during the early years of the American’s career.
The two started working together in the early 1990s, before Woods became a professional golfer in 1996.
During their time together, the former world No. 1 won eight Grand Slam tournaments, including his famous 12-shot victory at the 1997 Masters.
Woods also completed the Tiger Slam between 2000 and 2001, holding all four Grand Slam titles at the same time.
Their partnership ended in 2004, with Hank Haney subsequently becoming Woods’ coach.
Harmon later worked with Mickelson, helping the left-hander improve his game during another successful period of his career.

The experienced instructor has also coached Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson and several other golfers.
Earlier this month, Harmon appeared on The Real Deal Podcast, where he spoke about his experiences coaching famous players and the business side of professional golf.
He also mentioned how technology has changed golf instruction, although he continues to believe that personal communication between coaches and players remains important.
Harmon has no plans to return to full-time coaching, but he continues to follow professional golf closely.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour will continue its 2026 season with the Bank of Utah Championship and other fall tournaments already completed. The circuit’s next event is the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico, scheduled for November 5-8.
