Bryson DeChambeau has been one of the main topics in the golf world for several months.

It seems the experienced American still has doubts about his future and the next step in his career.

Bryson DeChambeau is yet to decide whether he wants to continue his career with LIV Golf, with the American now facing an important few weeks.

The two-time US Open champion has been one of the biggest names connected with the controversial league since joining in 2022. However, LIV now looks very different compared to the competition DeChambeau originally signed for.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund decided earlier this year that it would no longer provide financial backing beyond 2026. LIV Golf then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September and started working on a different model for next season.

BC Partners is involved in the proposed restructuring, while several current LIV players have decisions to make before everything can move forward.

Golf writer Alan Shipnuck believes DeChambeau still does not know what he will do.

«The clock is ticking,» Shipnuck said on Dan on Golf.

«Players have to commit, deals have to be consummated.»

The journalist claimed he had recently spoken to somebody close to DeChambeau and received very different information within a short period.

«I have talked to someone very close to Bryson, and he said ‘he’s totally in’ and then the next day he said ‘never mind, I might have got this wrong’,» Shipnuck said.

DeChambeau has an important decision

The 33-year-old played his final LIV event of the season in Indianapolis in August.

After the tournament, DeChambeau posted several photos from his four years in the competition and wrote: «It was a good run.»

That short message created discussion about his future, although the experienced golfer did not announce a move away from LIV.

His original LIV agreement has reportedly expired, leaving him in a different position ahead of a possible new version of the competition.

The bankruptcy filing also showed that LIV owes large amounts of money to several players. DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Cameron Smith are among the biggest unsecured creditors.

LIV listed between $500 million and $1 billion in liabilities in its Chapter 11 filing. Its assets were listed between $100 million and $500 million.

BC Partners has proposed financing a new version of the league, but the agreement depends on enough players accepting the restructuring plan.

Shipnuck believes that is one reason DeChambeau’s decision is quite important.

«As we have been saying for a long time, I think Bryson is going back and forth,» he said.

«There is a lot at stake here for his life and career.»

DeChambeau has enjoyed some good moments since moving to LIV.

He captained Crushers GC to the team championship in 2023 and won five individual LIV titles. He also produced one of the most memorable rounds in the league’s history when he shot 58 at Greenbrier.

His results in Grand Slam tournaments also kept him among golf’s best-known players. The American won his second US Open title at Pinehurst in 2024.

Other LIV stars also waiting

DeChambeau is not the only golfer who has avoided making a clear commitment to LIV 2.0.

Rahm has repeatedly received questions about his future.

When he was recently asked whether he expected to play in the league next year, the Spaniard refused to give a direct answer.

«I’m not going to share anything that I can’t share with you guys right now,» Rahm said.

Cameron Smith has also admitted that he needs more information before making his decision.

The Australian is reportedly owed $4.8 million by LIV and said there are still questions about what the new league will look like.

Joaquin Niemann has also confirmed that he has not yet committed to LIV 2.0.

The Chilean has been one of LIV’s most successful players in recent seasons, but he still wants more clarity before deciding where he will compete next year.

There is also the question of what happens if some players want to return to the PGA Tour.

PGA Tour chief executive Brian Rolapp recently stressed that there are currently no plans to introduce a special return program for LIV golfers.

That leaves several familiar names waiting to see which opportunities will be available.

Shipnuck believes answers should arrive soon.

«We are going to know sooner rather than later if LIV 2.0 is a thing,» he said.

The experienced golfer now faces an important decision about his future. The question is how much his next choice could change the direction of his career, while DeChambeau is likely to remain one of the main topics in golf over the coming period.
