Justin Rose has welcomed Jon Rahm’s decision to leave LIV Golf and stressed that he has no problems with players who want to return to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

The 46-year-old Englishman believes that golf would benefit if players from different tours were able to compete against each other more often. Rose decided against joining LIV Golf when the Saudi-backed circuit started attracting some of the best-known names in the sport in 2022.

Rahm, meanwhile, joined LIV in December 2023 after signing a contract reportedly worth more than $300 million. However, the two-time Grand Slam equivalent winner in golf has now reached an agreement to leave the league.

The Spaniard is reportedly giving up more than $100 million in remaining payments as part of the separation agreement.

Speaking to Mirror Sports U.S., Rose said Rahm’s decision was good news for the established tours.

«Obviously, Jon’s not the only one,» Rose said.

«There’s a lot of other great players in situations that he’s found himself in. It’s been an experiment; a whirlwind four or five years.»

LIV Golf is currently going through a difficult period after losing financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

The circuit filed for bankruptcy protection in September and is trying to find a way to continue operating in 2027.

A proposal for a new version of the league, LIV Golf 2.0, has been presented to players, although several golfers have already decided against participating.

Adrian Meronk, David Puig, Thomas Pieters and Charles Howell III are among those who have announced that they will not be part of the new project.

Other players have yet to confirm their plans.

Rose believes that those who decide to return should not face hostility from their former colleagues.

«No hard feelings from my point of view,» the 2013 US Open champion said.

«Everyone is welcome back. It’s great for golf for players to be able to play against the best players in the world as often as we can.»

Rose previously rejected LIV Golf offer

The experienced Englishman had an opportunity to join LIV Golf several years ago but decided to continue competing on the PGA Tour.

Rose later admitted that remaining on the established tours had helped him continue his career in the way he wanted.

In February 2026, the former world No. 1 spoke about his decision after winning the Farmers Insurance Open.

The victory was his 13th PGA Tour title and arrived after a period in which he had also been close to winning another Grand Slam equivalent event in golf.

The Englishman had considered several things before rejecting the LIV offer, including his chances of playing for Europe in the Ryder Cup and possibly becoming captain one day.

Several of his former Ryder Cup teammates made a different decision.

Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Graeme McDowell and Martin Kaymer were among those who joined the Saudi-funded competition.

Their departures created quite a lot of arguments between players on different tours.

However, Rose has repeatedly stressed that he prefers seeing the best golfers competing together.

The English veteran also believes that LIV’s arrival forced the PGA Tour and DP World Tour to make changes that benefited their members.

«And I think the disruption of it all, the PGA Tour and DP World Tour have had to become better versions of themselves,» Rose said.

«I think basically pretty much every player in the game has benefited one way or another, and hopefully it can now settle and we can find a really good balance.»

Not everyone agrees with Rose about returning LIV players

Dutch golfer Joost Luiten has a different opinion about players who left the established tours and now want to return.

The 40-year-old believes that golfers who decided to join LIV Golf should not be allowed to come back without facing consequences.

Luiten was quite critical of the situation in a recent interview with Today’s Golfer.

He claimed that some players had shown little interest in the DP World Tour when they were receiving large contracts elsewhere.

The Dutchman believes that they should not be given the same treatment as players who remained loyal to the European circuit.

The question of returning players has become more important following Rahm’s decision.

Jon Rahm

The 31-year-old Spaniard has reached a separation agreement with LIV Golf, but the agreement still requires approval from a US bankruptcy judge on November 5.

Under the proposed terms, Rahm would be released from his remaining obligations and would regain rights to his name and image.

However, leaving LIV does not automatically give the former Masters champion full playing rights on the PGA Tour.

His return would depend on the eligibility rules and any decisions made by the tour.

Other golfers have already chosen different paths after leaving LIV.

Brooks Koepka returned to the PGA Tour earlier this year, while Patrick Reed also decided to leave the Saudi-backed league.

LIV Golf has extended the deadline for players to commit to its proposed new competition until October 25.
