Tranlate this title LPGA 2027: more prize money, less travel in spanish

The LPGA Tour has unveiled its 2027 schedule, featuring 33 events and a total prize purse exceeding $147 million—a new record for the circuit and an increase of approximately $15 million over 2026. Since the beginning of the decade, the total prize money has nearly doubled.

The most significant change, however, goes beyond just the money. The schedule, devised by Commissioner Craig Kessler, aims to streamline travel by grouping tournaments into geographic clusters: Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong in the spring; and South Korea, China, Malaysia, and Japan in the autumn.

The European leg of the tour will also be more compact, comprising the Amundi Evian Championship, the newly introduced «The Championship,» and the AIG Women’s Open. This scheduling strategy is designed to reduce the need for intercontinental flights, thereby lowering player fatigue and travel-related expenses.

Furthermore, nearly twenty tournaments will offer support for hotel stays, airfare, or ground transportation, while ten events are set to guarantee a minimum payout to all participants.

Among the most compelling additions is a two-event swing in Hawaii. The new Nanea Cup, boasting a $4 million purse, will be followed by the LOTTE Championship—now relocated to the renowned Plantation Course at Kapalua—which will feature a $3 million prize fund.

For twenty-five years, Kapalua hosted one of the most iconic tournaments on the PGA Tour. Its inclusion in the women’s circuit carries strong symbolic weight: the LPGA is stepping into a space vacated by men’s professional golf, bringing its top stars to a course recognized the world over.

The schedule also sees the debut of the Futu Ladies World Championship in Hong Kong, while the Tour will return to Corning after an eighteen-year absence. The new event, dubbed «The Classic,» will offer a $5 million purse—the largest prize fund for any non-major tournament, with the exception of the CME Group Tour Championship. The major championship calendar features highly prestigious venues such as Inverness Club, Congressional Country Club, and Royal St George’s. The latter will host a women’s major for the first time, following fifteen editions of the men’s Open Championship.

Additionally, from July 19 to 25, «The Championship»—a tournament with a four-million-dollar purse, co-sanctioned by the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour (LET)—will make its debut. It will be scheduled between the Evian Championship and the AIG Women’s Open, creating a three-week European swing.

It remains to be seen how many LET players will be able to gain entry into the field; the qualification criteria and the allocation of spots will be crucial in assessing the true impact of this agreement.

The 2027 calendar reflects a Tour that is focused on more than just increasing prize money. This economic growth is accompanied by a greater emphasis on travel logistics, athlete recovery, and the quality of the golf courses.

The next challenge will be to translate these advancements into greater television visibility and increased recognition for the players themselves. Yet, by bringing women’s golf to venues like Kapalua, Congressional, and Royal St George’s, the LPGA is already sending a clear message: its players deserve the most prestigious stages.
