LIV Golf is preparing for the imminent departure of its star player, Spain’s Jon Rahm, who on Sunday won the season’s No. 1 ranking for the third consecutive year (2024, 2025, 2026).

On Thursday, LIV Golf canceled its season-ending team championship, scheduled for August 27-30 in Michigan. The LIV season will conclude with the tournament in the Indianapolis area from August 20-23.

There’s another investor secured, as announced a few days ago by LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil, but their financial injection will be far from the enormous sums of money seen in recent years.

Rahm, 31, and ranked No. 13 in the world, reached an agreement in May with the DP World Tour, the European Tour, to maintain his membership and Ryder Cup eligibility. He agreed to pay off outstanding fines accumulated since joining LIV Golf in 2024 and participate in five European Tour events.

According to The Telegraph, the DP World Tour is increasingly confident that Rahm will participate in more tournaments next season.

Before Rahm reached an agreement, eight LIV golfers paid their fines in February to avoid further disciplinary action from the DP World Tour: Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig, and Elvis Smylie.

Rahm’s potential departure comes as the DP World Tour prepares to fine LIV players again in 2027, according to a report published by The Athletic.

According to this source, the European Tour has begun notifying current LIV members that they will face «severe fines and tournament suspensions» if they continue competing in events that conflict with their participation dates.

Rahm has been the most prominent figure in LIV since joining the League in December 2023. American Bryson DeChambeau and Chilean Joaquín Niemann are other notable stars. Rahm is the captain of Team Legion XIII and, in his three years, has won four individual tournaments in addition to his three season-ending number one rankings, each of which came with a bonus of $18 million (€15.6 million).

Rahm has won 11 PGA Tour titles, including two majors, the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2023 Masters, but he has not won any other majors since joining the Saudi Super League. He held the world number 1 ranking for 52 weeks.
