After 15 seasons and 210 starts, Englishwoman Eleanor Givens can finally call herself Ladies European Tour champion. Having joined the tour in 2012, she had already come close to winning several times and had to contend with injuries and even return to Qualifying School in December to defend her card. “I can’t believe it! I’m so excited and so proud of myself. I’m in a bit of shock. Today I felt surprisingly calm and decided to go for the win. The weekend started badly because the bag arrived late, but in the end it worked out. This victory is life-changing: last year I wondered if I should continue playing, then I said to myself, ‘You still have the ability.’ I worked so hard behind the scenes, and this trophy means a lot,” said Givens.

Swede Kajsa Arwefjäll, runner-up last year, started with a three-shot lead thanks to two excellent opening rounds, but lost ground in the first ten holes. Givens and Hillier, both Tour veterans, capitalized: 32 (-3) and 33 (-2) on the front nine, sharing the lead on the back nine. The short par-5 on the 17th proved decisive. Givens, in the penultimate group, reached the green in two and closed with a comfortable two-putt birdie. Hillier, however, ran into trouble off the tee and was unable to recover. On the 18th, Givens pared and waited for the Australian to score, who pared to give her the win.

I’m fortunate to have a group of fantastic friends on Tour: Liz Young won here in 2022, and Christine Wolf, who ended her career this week, won in India. Hillier, second at 12 points along with Försterling (who won in 2023) and Ireland’s Foster (her career-best LET result), had a positive week after years of health problems. Arwefjäll finished fifth after a final 72 (+1). Spain’s Amaia Latorre finished sixth at 10 points, while Harang Lee and Lydia Hall tied for seventh. Moa Svedenskiöld and Alejandra Llaneza also finished in the top 10 at 8 points.

Roberta Liti finished 27th with a 5-point total (72-68-68). Alessia Nobilio and Matilde Partele failed to make the cut.

Givens climbs to 23rd in the LET Order of Merit thanks to her 500 points for the win. South Africa’s Casandra Alexander continues to lead the rankings with 1,899.98 points.

The next event for the Ladies European Tour stars is the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at the prestigious K Club, starting August 27 after a week-long break.
