The Bernardus Golf Club in Cromvoirt, Netherlands, hosts the twentieth edition of the Solheim Cup, the premier women’s golf tournament between Europe and the United States, from Friday, September 11th to Sunday, September 13th. The European team is determined to reclaim the title they lost in 2024. Carlota Ciganda and newcomer Julia López will represent Spain.

They will be under the guidance of Anna Nordqvist, a legend of European golf who assumed the captaincy in February 2025. Nordqvist announced her retirement from golf a few days ago, but she is far from leaving the front lines: this week she dons the captain’s armband to try and lead the European team to victory.

Rolex is the official timekeeper and worldwide partner of the Solheim Cup since 1994. She has been a brand ambassador since 2010. «You feel like you’re part of a family. It’s very inspiring. «Being captain of Europe has been a long journey. I always said that if I had the opportunity to be captain, I wanted to take it when I was ready. Sharing this journey with players and caddies while still on the tour has been very special. I’ve had to communicate a lot with the players. I share this path with Caroline Hedwall, Melissa Reid, and Anne van Dam, who are women of my generation, so being captain means closing this circle that we’ve created over so many years. Because being captain is a lifelong dream. My initial aspirations were probably limited to trying to play in at least one Solheim Cup. I think being captain is the best way to give back to the Solheim Cup and everything that others have done for me along the way. I don’t know if, looking back, I’ll consider this a legacy; maybe it’s a label others put on you. But it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I just want to put my whole heart into it.

«I’ve continued competing, but there’s a lot of work involved. It’s difficult to balance both things at the highest level. You have to put your own career on the back burner a bit, but it’s a very special opportunity. When Sunday comes, I just want to know that I gave it my all and that I was true to myself, that I tried to do my best for the players. I’m sure some will like my work as captain and others perhaps won’t».
