This year, the event will be played in July (replacing the Barracuda Championship), offering approximately 50 DP World Tour players the opportunity to compete in a tournament on the American circuit thanks to the strategic alliance between the two tours. For four Italians—Filippo Celli, Stefano Mazzoli, Renato Paratore, and Domenico Geminiani—this is an unmissable opportunity to earn FedEx Cup points, Race to Dubai points, and, most importantly, a two-year exemption on both circuits, as well as a spot in the 2027 PGA Championship.

The tournament is played at the Corales Golf Course at the Puntacana Resort & Club, on the east coast of the Dominican Republic. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2010, the par-72 course, stretching 7,010 meters, is one of the longest on the PGA Tour. Six holes run along the ocean, and the finish is spectacular and formidable: the so-called Devil’s Elbow, consisting of holes 16, 17, and 18. On hole 18, players must play over an inlet of the ocean. The course features complex greens and often strong winds, which can make ball flight difficult to read. The format is classic 72-hole stroke play with a cut after 36 holes for the first 65 ties (different from the Barracuda’s Modified Stableford).

Originally part of the Korn Ferry Tour (winners: Dominic Bozzelli and Nate Lashley), it has been a regular on the PGA Tour calendar as an alternate event since 2018. Past winners include Graeme McDowell, Matt Wallace, Billy Horschel, and, in 2025, South African Garrick Higgo, who successfully defended his title last year by beating Joel Dahmen on the Devil’s Elbow. Higgo, a three-time winner on the DP World Tour, returns to try to become the first player to win twice in this event. The prize pool is $4 million, with 300 FedEx Cup points and 3,500 Race to Dubai points for the winner. It is also the third of five events in the DP World Tour’s Closing Swing: whoever tops the final standings after the Nexo Championship in August will earn bonuses and important entry points.

A great opportunity for the Italians in the field. For them, as for 40-50 other DP World Tour players, a good week could mean entry into the PGA Tour or a significant boost in the Race to Dubai.

Other notable names include Canadian Taylor Pendrith (coming off a strong second-place playoff finish at the ISCO Championship), Joel Dahmen (seeking redemption after his 2025 Devil’s Elbow collapse), Germany’s Matti Schmid, Aaron Wise, and defending champion Garrick Higgo.
