The third Spanish Footballers’ Cup concluded today at the National Golf Center after two days marked by high-level competition, camaraderie, and reunions among players. The competition continues to grow with each edition and is now firmly established as one of the most special events on the calendar for professional footballers and former footballers passionate about golf, in another fantastic day organized by JGolf, the competition’s promoter and organizer.

The star of the day was once again Juantxo Elía, who was crowned overall champion for the third consecutive year after posting two solid rounds of 72 and 69 strokes for a total of 141. The Navarrese golfer once again demonstrated his remarkable consistency and experience managing the key moments of the tournament.

“It was a more relaxed round; today I played with more composure and strategy. I started with a quick bogey and the putts weren’t dropping, but I was patient and in the second round I managed to shoot four under par to close out a great round,” explained the champion after lifting the trophy once again.

In the 2nd category, the victory went to Ignacio Fernández-Marcote, a newcomer to the competition this year, thanks to rounds of 79 and 80 strokes. The player highlighted both the competitive nature of the tournament and the atmosphere among the participants. “I started poorly because the putters were cold, but I settled in really well and I’m very happy with the result. The best part is being able to reconnect with former teammates from football and now share this passion for golf with them,” he said.

In the Stableford categories, the winners were David Rodríguez Lombán in the 3rd category, José Galán in the 4th, Guillermo Ibáñez in the 5th, and Raúl Mansilla in the guest category. The tournament also awarded special prizes for «closest to the pin» on holes 3 and 14, sponsored by La Manga Club and Volvo, which went to Ángel Rodríguez, Raúl Moreno, and Javier García Noblejas.

Álvaro Sevilla, the tournament organizer, gave a very positive assessment of this year’s edition: “We are very satisfied because the players thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and the atmosphere was fantastic. They are very competitive, always striving to perform at their best, which raises the level of play each time. Furthermore, the course was in excellent condition and the feedback from all the participants has been very positive.”

She also added that «our goal is to continue consolidating the Spanish Footballers’ Cup as a tournament among friends, a space for camaraderie and reunion where football and golf come together in a very special way. It’s a very fun event for both the players and us as organizers, and we hope to continue growing it for many more years.»

The 3rd Spanish Footballers’ Cup has been supported by the Costa del Sol, La Manga Club, and the National Golf Center, the tournament’s venue. The collaboration of Ping, Viñas Juan Gil, VOLVO and the Blazer Foundation, with JGolf as promoter and organizer of the competition.
