There is already speculation about several players from LIV Golf who could switch sides and try again to find a place on the PGA Tour.

Max Greyserman shared his view of the whole situation in an interview with the media.

The famous golfer was one of the main topics on the golf scene last season due to rumors that he could join LIV Golf. Greyserman was close to moving to the rival tour, but ultimately decided to stay on the PGA Tour.

The American explained how he sees the current situation, considering that LIV Golf does not have a bright future even if it manages to find a new investor. In his opinion, LIV will probably find financial support, but this money will not be close to the level of funding previously provided by PIF.

“Even if they do get funding, it’s going to be a shell of itself. It’ll be 10 events and it just won’t be LIV, as LIV as we know it is dead,” he said, as quoted by HITC.

“So even if they do get funding, I think the long term feasibility has proven that it’s not going to happen. Sure, maybe you have a 10 event series that people play in, and it makes a little bit of money.

“At the current time, they have no funding, but they might get funding. And part of the reason they might get funding is just because there’s so much money floating around in private equity that’s been geared toward sports. A lot of these funds have a lot of capital that they need to deploy. And so, they need to deploy that capital, and they might throw it at LIV Golf.

It has nothing to do with the potential opportunity that LIV Golf has, I think, from a commercial perspective, I just think these funds just need to deploy capital from investors, and they’re just like, ‘oh, LIV’s right here. Maybe we’ll try this one’.

I think you’re kidding yourself if you think LIV has commercial success in its future, because it’s been proven at this point.”

The return of LIV golfers to the PGA Tour

Max Greyserman explained that most players who decide to leave LIV Golf would have to fight for PGA Tour status again.

According to him, only rare players have a privileged status, such as those with lifetime memberships or winners of major tournaments in the last five years. He cited Jon Rahm as an example, while players like Cameron Smith could lose their status after their membership expires if they continue to play at LIV and serve a potential suspension.

The American golfer believes that in that case many LIV players would have to go through qualifying school (Q-School) in order to return to the highest level. He added that some of them may have status on the DP World Tour, which could open up an additional opportunity for them to return, but he believes the number of available spots through that tour could be reduced in the future.

Greyserman stresses that the return of LIV players would be acceptable for other golfers if they had to earn their place again through qualifications or results on other tours. In his opinion, the problem would only arise if they were allowed to return directly without having to prove themselves, because that would cause dissatisfaction among PGA Tour players.

Speaking about the current relationship with LIV Golf, Greyserman pointed out that almost no one on the PGA Tour pays attention to this league anymore. According to him, the players are currently focused on the future of their own tour and the changes that are happening there, while LIV is hardly discussed at all in the locker rooms or practice facilities.
