Justin Rose believes European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald could make several changes to his team when Europe tries to defend the trophy at Adare Manor next year.
The English golfer expects around three new players to be part of the 12-man European team, with a number of younger golfers already getting attention from Donald.
Rose has played in seven Ryder Cups since making his debut in 2008. The experienced Englishman was also part of the European team that defeated the United States at Bethpage Black last year.
Europe kept quite a similar group between the 2023 and 2025 Ryder Cups, with Rasmus Hojgaard replacing his twin brother Nicolai as the only change in the team.
Rose believes the situation could be different in Ireland.
“I think freshening it up a little bit would be a good thing,” Rose said before the BMW PGA Championship.
“You want your team to be experienced, but to have some fresh energy is always great, whether that be ideas, style of game, pairing options.
To change it up is a good thing.
I’d imagine that you’d look at three being sort of like the spread, I would say, maybe three new faces, maybe two and a half new faces.”

Donald is already looking at possible new players
Preparation for the 2027 contest has already started even though the Ryder Cup is still one year away.
Donald recently invited 16 European golfers to Adare Manor for a practice trip. The group played the course and spent time together before travelling to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship.
Some familiar names were there, including Rose, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Tyrrell Hatton, Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick and Robert MacIntyre.
However, Donald also invited players without Ryder Cup experience.
Eugenio Chacarra, Angel Ayora, Alex Fitzpatrick and Kristoffer Reitan were among the younger players involved in the trip. Nicolai Hojgaard was also there after missing out on the 2025 team.
The qualification race is still at a very early stage. It started at the British Masters in August and will continue until August 22, 2027. The first six players in the standings will qualify automatically, while Donald will choose the other six himself.
Chacarra is already inside the early top 10 of the European points list, while Ayora and Alex Fitzpatrick have also started collecting points.
There are many months left for that list to change.
Rose mentioned the Hojgaard brothers, Aberg and MacIntyre when speaking about how younger players have already become important members of the European setup.
“There’s so many good young players, like the Hojgaards, Ludvig, even Bob,” he said.
“Those guys are now real stalwarts of the team going forward.”
The 45-year-old also remembered the transition between Europe’s defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021 and the victories that followed in Rome and New York.

Rose has a lot of trust in Luke Donald
Donald will captain Europe for the third Ryder Cup in a row after leading his team to victory in both 2023 and 2025.
Europe defeated the United States 16.5-11.5 in Rome before winning 15-13 at Bethpage Black two years later. Donald now has the chance to become the first captain to win three consecutive Ryder Cups.
The former world No. 1 already visited Adare Manor earlier this year with his wife Diane and vice captain Edoardo Molinari as preparations started for the event.
Rose believes Donald has developed a lot during his time as captain.
“I think that he has really taken on that leadership role with all that he’s got,” Rose said.
“I think he’s created a lot of trust because of that.”
Rose also described Donald as a calm and detailed person who has found a way to connect with his players.
The European captain has also kept several familiar people around him. Edoardo and Francesco Molinari are part of his backroom team again, while Padraig Harrington is another vice captain.

The 2027 event will be quite important for European golf for another reason. It will mark 100 years since the first Ryder Cup was played.
Adare Manor will host the competition from September 13-19, with the three match days taking place from September 17-19. Ireland last hosted the Ryder Cup in 2006, when Europe defeated the United States at The K Club.
Europe has also not lost a home Ryder Cup since 1993.
Rose will be hoping to be part of Donald’s plans again, but competition for places could be much different this time.
There are experienced players who have already proved themselves in Ryder Cups, while several younger golfers now have almost a full year to make their case.
If Rose’s prediction proves correct, around three of them could get their first chance when Europe faces the United States in Ireland next September.
