We just tried to be, like, okay, we still have nine more holes.

Like, let’s get it on the back and just tried to stay positive and just focus on ourselves, not really what was going on on the outside.»

Corpuz agrees with Korda after defeat

Corpuz had a similar opinion when she spoke after the match.

The 32-year-old felt that she and Korda did not play much differently compared to their previous rounds, but their opponents simply took their opportunities.

«Exactly what Nelly said,» Corpuz said.

«I felt like we played pretty much the same as yesterday.

Maybe one or two shots, I think, that we both wish we could get back. But overall, really solid.

We got a few putts to drop towards the end. But, yeah, they just played really well.»

The defeat was quite unusual for a partnership that has worked so well at this tournament.

Korda and Corpuz won all four foursomes matches they played together across the 2023 and 2024 Solheim Cups.

Their Friday win over Hull and Woad then moved them to 5-0 together and made them the first partnership in Solheim Cup history to win five consecutive matches.

Korda spoke about Corpuz after that victory and stressed how comfortable she feels playing alongside her.

«She’s just so solid. Honestly, I enjoy playing with her so much,» Korda said Friday.

However, every successful run eventually ends and Stark and Grant were the pair who finally found a way against them.

Europe won three of Saturday morning’s four foursomes matches and moved into a 7-5 lead.

USA captain Angela Stanford then made an interesting decision before the afternoon session.

Korda and Corpuz were both left out of the four-ball matches, meaning the world No. 1 had to watch as her teammates tried to recover from the difficult morning.

Alison Lee was also rested despite having a perfect record at that stage of the competition.

The decision could have brought a lot of questions if the United States fell further behind, but Stanford’s team responded well.

Europe initially moved further ahead when Stark and Grant beat Megan Khang and Lauren Coughlin 2&1.

Still, Team USA then started its comeback.

Yealimi Noh and Andrea Lee defeated Hull and Woad, while Rose Zhang and Auston Kim also collected a point.

Jennifer Kupcho and Lindy Duncan completed the comeback in dramatic fashion.

Kupcho made a 91-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and then another long putt on 18 as the Americans won their match and finished Saturday tied 8-8 with Europe.

That result means everything will be decided in Sunday’s 12 singles matches.

The United States needs 14 total points to retain the Solheim Cup, while Europe needs 14.5 to take the trophy back.

Korda will now have another chance to help her team after getting some rest on Saturday afternoon.

The experienced American has already played many big matches at the Solheim Cup and entered this year’s event as one of the most important players in Stanford’s team.

Her partnership with Corpuz finally suffered a defeat, but their five straight wins together still represent one of the best runs by any pair in the history of the competition.
