On Tuesday, LIV Golf suffered another major blow, dealt by a partner that had been significant for the (formerly) Saudi-backed league.

The partnership between the Asian Tour and LIV Golf dates back to 2022 and had steadily strengthened over the years, culminating in the consolidation of the International Series—a group of LIV-backed events within the Asian Tour schedule.

However, the downward spiral LIV Golf is experiencing has prompted its leadership to seek alternatives (it is realistic to expect LIV’s support for the International Series to end soon, Editor’s Note), and options in the golf world are limited.

A joint announcement revealed a multi-year agreement (currently running through 2029) between the Asian Tour and the «Strategic Alliance»—an operational partnership established by the PGA Tour and DP.

This three-way agreement secures commercial opportunities and new pathways for players.

Next year will also see the return of several events co-sanctioned with the European Tour, reviving a long-standing connection that dates back to February 1999, when the Malaysian Open launched a collaboration that flourished into an active alliance between 2016 and 2021—a partnership interrupted by the arrival of LIV Golf.

Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner and CEO, stated:

“We feel the time is right to partner with the DP World and the PGA to strengthen us for its members, fans, and partners.”

“Uniting the three tours under a single partnership will expand the scope of professional golf in Asia.” In this regard, it is worth noting that the Strategic Alliance had already expanded eastward in 2022 by concluding a similar agreement with the Japan Golf Organization.

Meanwhile, Ben Cowen, Chief Tournament and Operations Officer for the DP, stated:
