This week, world golf is experiencing a packed schedule.
One of the most prestigious events of the season is taking place on the PGA Tour: the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday at Muirfield Village. Now in its 50th year, Jack Nicklaus’s tournament sees Scottie Scheffler seeking a historic hat trick, with Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Åberg, Russell Henley, and many other top players ready to challenge him. The DP World Tour is hosting the KLM Open, the third consecutive European Swing national tournament. Eight Italians return to The International in Amsterdam: Guido Migliozzi (the 2024 defending champion), Francesco Molinari, Matteo Manassero, Francesco Laporta, Gregorio De Leo, Stefano Mazzoli, Renato Paratore, and Filippo Celli. The HotelPlanner Tour hosts the Swiss Challenge at Golf Sempach, one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in Switzerland. Italy is also well represented here with Lorenzo Scalise, Matteo Cristoni, Aron Zemmer, and Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, all chasing crucial points for the Road to Mallorca. In LIV Golf, Real Club Valderrama hosts LIV Golf Andalucia for the fourth time, featuring Jon Rahm, Sergio García, Bryson DeChambeau, Cameron Smith, and other top stars of the Saudi circuit on one of the most tactical courses in Europe. On the women’s side, the LPGA Tour awards its second major of the season: the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally at the legendary Riviera Country Club, which is hosting the tournament for the first time in its history. Nelly Korda and the world’s best players compete on an iconic course.

PGA Tour – the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday
One of the PGA TOUR’s most historic and prestigious events turns 50. The world’s best players return to Muirfield Village this week for the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday, the seventh of eight Signature Events of the 2026 season, hosted as always by Jack Nicklaus.
It will be a special week in several ways. Scottie Scheffler, world No. 1, is coming off two consecutive victories (2024 and 2025) and is aiming for a rare feat: a hat trick in the same event, something not seen on the PGA TOUR since 2009-2011, when Steve Stricker dominated the John Deere Classic for three years in a row. Scheffler has found Muirfield Village to be an ideal hunting ground in recent seasons. Fresh from a remarkable solo third-place finish at the Byron Nelson CJ Cup, the Texan is looking to write the next chapter in his extraordinary career.
Rory McIlroy returns to the Memorial for the first time since 2024. The Masters winner had four consecutive top-20 finishes at Muirfield Village before last year’s hiatus. His presence makes the field even more stellar.
The FedExCup Nos. 2 and 3: Cameron Young and Matt Fitzpatrick are also in excellent form. Both haven’t played since the PGA Championship and have already racked up five combined victories in the 2026 season. Fitzpatrick has three career top-10 finishes here, while Young achieved his best result in the last edition.
Ludvig Åberg is looking to continue his excellent form. In his last nine starts, he has only one finish outside the top-20 (a T21) and six top-eight finishes. In his 2024 Memorial debut, he finished T5.
Russell Henley, fresh from his victory at the Charles Schwab Challenge last week, arrives in great form with three more top-10 finishes this season, including a T3 at the Masters and a T5 here in 2025. He will be one of the most feared players.
Among the sponsors’ invitees are Tony Finau (five top 15s in nine appearances at Muirfield Village), Patrick Rodgers, and past champions Billy Horschel (2022) and Matt Kuchar (2013).
Eric Cole earned his spot thanks to his final playoff loss at the Charles Schwab Challenge, moving up 12 spots in the Aon Swing 5. Wyndham Clark (winner at the Byron Nelson) leads the rankings, followed by Brandt Snedeker and others. In the Next 10, Nico Echavarria earned the final spot with a birdie on the final hole. Aaron Rai, fresh from winning the PGA Championship, returns to the field at the Memorial.
Designed by Jack Nicklaus with Desmond Muirhead and opened in 1974, the course takes its name from Scotland’s famous Muirfield, where Nicklaus won his first Open Championship in 1966. A par-72 course covering approximately 6,920 meters, it’s a demanding course that rewards precision and game management. It has hosted the Memorial since 1976 and has spawned many legendary stories.
In the last edition (2025), Scottie Scheffler dominated: with a 70 (-2) in the final round, he won by four shots, joining Tiger Woods as the only two-time winner of the tournament. Ben Griffin tried to make the finale exciting, but a double bogey on the penultimate hole dashed his hopes. Also on the podium were Sepp Straka, Nick Taylor, Russell Henley, and Maverick McNealy.
