Jon Rahm did not rule out the possibility of investing in LIV, the league that Saudi Arabia will cease funding at the end of this season, on Tuesday. Although he revealed that he has not been asked for money yet, he left the door open to helping the competition survive.

The Basque golfer, who has been playing in LIV since the beginning of 2024, explained that the circuit’s top executive, Scott O’Neil, «is working hard» to find new investors to fill the gap that will be left by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF), which has spent around $5 billion (approximately €4.3 billion) since the league’s inception in 2022.

«There are many ways to approach this issue. As for putting my own money in, «They haven’t asked me for my pocket money yet. So I don’t know if they will or not. They’ve explored different ways to evolve the project from what it has been so far, but, for the moment, they haven’t asked me to invest,» Rahm replied.

One of the options being considered is that some golfers on the tour will invest their own money in next year’s prize money in exchange for an equity stake.

Regarding how he feels about LIV competitions compared to tournaments on the two traditional tours, Rahm said: «The feeling before and during the tournaments is one of a great atmosphere, a really good vibe, and a lot of happiness. So I don’t feel anything different arriving this week.»

The former world number one detailed the other four European Tour tournaments he will play once LIV ends at the end of August, under the agreement he reached with the DP World Tour to settle his fines and regularize his situation.

His schedule includes the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth (England) in September, and the Alfred Dunhill Open in Scotland and the Spanish Open in October, although he predicted it will be difficult to participate in the latter two as they will likely coincide with the birth of his fourth child.

«Most likely, I’ll miss those two,» Rahm noted, adding that he would instead play in the DP World Tour Finals in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in November.

The Spanish golfer said he was unaware of the changes the PGA Tour is preparing for 2028, which will feature two divisions with promotion and relegation. «No idea. I don’t use social media. I have no idea,» Rahm confessed.
