Rahm responded strongly, with four consecutive pars, including a huge long putt on the par-four 10th.

But the turning point came on the par-three 11th. Rahm literally missed a mid-range birdie putt and paid dearly for it mentally on the following holes. Because from the 12th hole onward, everything fell apart, and any chance of fighting for the U.S. Open slipped through his fingers.
