McIlroy also praised Matt Fitzpatrick’s season and highlighted the consistency shown by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

«Obviously Matt Fitzpatrick has had a great year. Scottie’s had an unbelievably consistent year without the wins that he’s had the last couple years.

Again, it all depends on what you value, I guess. I guess I value like the bigger tournaments and guys having the bigger moments.»

Fans have divided opinions when it comes to this prestigious award. Many believe that major tournaments are the most important part of the season and the greatest achievement that a golfer can achieve, while others value consistency throughout the year, pointing out that it is the hallmark of top players. It remains to be seen how those who decide the PGA Tour Player of the Year award will ultimately vote.

McIlroy’s season has been different from previous years

McIlroy’s own campaign has been one of the most unusual of his career.
