Kevin Kisner commented on this incident in the Fore Play podcast, saying that he could understand Scottie Scheffler to a certain extent, given that the American expected a good shot, but something quite different happened.

“Man, I could go on this for hours. I’ve got so many stories and instances and things that have been said,“ Kisner said.

“But you’ve got to put yourself in Scottie’s shoes, right?

He is doing everything that he possibly can to hit a great golf shot, and he thinks he’s pulled it off and now he’s playing three from 150 yards.

It’s just your mind is so jumbled at that moment in time.

Like, you can’t process what just happened because you stood over this tee shot, you had a great game plan with your teammate.

And now you’re in the water, and as you struck it and watched it fly, you thought you were making a hole in one or a two.» he said, as reported by HITC.

Kisner stressed that at that point Scheffler was probably finishing with one of the biggest double bogeys of his life on that shot.

He emphasized that, if such a situation happened while playing with them, Scheffler would never react in such a way, because it is a moment when the player is completely overwhelmed by emotions and cannot immediately process what happened.

The US golfer added that it takes a huge amount of effort, work and time to execute the shot exactly as planned, so when the ball ends up in the water, the player simply doesn’t know how to react at that moment.

He also stressed that his caddie always said that «it’s not in his interest to ruin him», and that Ted Scott did everything he thought was right to help Scheffler, and that in such situations it must be remembered that the caddie is there to help, even though the outcome sometimes does not go in their favour.

The American pointed out that golf is an outdoor sport and that there are various variables in play.

Kisner emphasized that the wind can change and that it is not possible to know for sure whether it was the same at the moment of impact and during the flight of the ball for several seconds.

The 42-year-old added that no one can know if the wind increased in those few seconds of flight of the ball, which could have caused it to end up in the water.

The PGA Tour player stressed that it is a fascinating sport in which you are completely focused on the moment and that in such situations it is difficult for a player to immediately process failure, especially when he feels that he has done everything correctly.
