Jon Rahm has been the most consistent player in LIV Golf since joining the league, but his future has now become one of the biggest talking points in the sport.

The Spaniard has already secured his third consecutive LIV Golf individual championship, doing so with one event still left on the schedule. He won in Hong Kong and Mexico City earlier this year and also collected three runner-up finishes during a dominant first half of the season.

That success has come during a difficult period for LIV Golf. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced earlier this year that it would stop funding the league after 2026, while LIV has since secured a new lead investor and confirmed plans for a smaller 10-event schedule going forward.

Reports have suggested that Rahm could leave after this season and look for a route back to the PGA Tour. However, Eamon Lynch says those reports should not be treated as evidence that talks are already happening.

Lynch says PGA Tour has not spoken with Rahm

Speaking on Golf Channel, Lynch said the rumours around Rahm are coming from people close to the two-time major champion rather than from any negotiations with the PGA Tour.

«What you’re seeing now is exit planning going on, and particularly these rumours going around about Jon Rahm, which is very obviously, the people around him just chumming the waters, trying to create a narrative that Jon Rahm has options,» Lynch said.

«I’ve talked to multiple sources at the PGA Tour. There is no conversation with Jon Rahm.

That would have to start between Jon Rahm and Brian Rolapp, and Jon Rahm is contractually obligated to LIV Golf right now.»

Rahm signed with LIV in December 2023 in a deal reported to be worth between $300 million and $500 million. He confirmed in May that the agreement runs beyond the end of 2026 and admitted that he could not see many obvious ways out of it.

Lynch believes that contractual situation is the main reason PGA Tour officials are unlikely to make any move now.

«And the PGA Tour is not going to set itself up for a tortious interference claim from LIV Golf at this point in the proceedings, Jon Rahm has a problem. Brian Rolapp does not have a problem right now.»

The columnist also believes Rahm would still bring plenty of value if he eventually returned.

«I do think he would be beneficial to the PGA Tour if he was back, in the same way that Koepka is.

«I think Brian Rolapp would probably think that he’s good for business, but it would require expending a lot of political capital to make that happen. And right now, I’m not necessarily sure that Brian Rolapp’s all that incentivised to do so.»

Rahm won 11 times on the PGA Tour before leaving, including the 2021 US Open and 2023 Masters. He was also world No. 1 for 52 weeks.

Rahm has kept his future open

The 32-year-old himself has been much more careful when discussing what comes next.

In May, he said he still had several years remaining on his LIV contract and added: «I don’t see many ways out.» He also stressed that he was not focused on leaving while there were still tournaments and majors to play.

Two months later, his answer was less direct. Rahm acknowledged that he was in contact with those making decisions about LIV’s future but said there were no details he could share publicly.

«We know a lot of what’s going on, yeah,» Rahm said in July, before adding that there was nothing «I can share with you guys right now.»

His performances have given him little reason to be unhappy with the golf itself. Rahm has now won the LIV season title in each of his three years with the league, and he said after clinching the 2026 crown that this year’s success felt better because he had also won individual tournaments.

The bigger questions are away from the course.

LIV has canceled its planned team championship in Michigan and will end its 2026 season this week in Indianapolis. The league says the decision will allow it to focus resources on its transition to new investors.

Rahm will therefore finish another successful LIV season while speculation about his next move continues.

The future of the Spanish player seems quite interesting, and most believe that he will really find a way that will delight all golf fans, and that he will return to the PGA Tour. Most of the golfers who are currently competing at LIV Golf are somewhat confused about their future, and they often emphasize that they can hardly give a precise answer as to what really awaits them in the coming weeks and months.
