The only tournament where his participation might be in jeopardy is the Madrid event—a tournament he considers unmissable, but which could coincide with the birth of his fourth child.

«It will depend on when the baby decides to arrive. I hope to be there, but we’ll see. Family always comes first, and as much as I love the Spanish Open, if I have to choose, the decision is obviously easy,» he said during a media appearance in Doonbeg—the tournament venue in western Ireland, which the former world number one has won twice (2017 and 2019).

The Basque player’s last outing was on August 22 at the tournament in Indianapolis (USA), which concluded the LIV season; there, he was crowned the best overall player for the third time and also won the team title with Legion XIII.

Rahm gave no hints regarding his future for the upcoming season: «There are no updates since Indianapolis.» «There are many things that could happen, and it’s one of those things only time will tell… To be fair to those of us in LIV, I’m pretty good at dealing with turbulence,» said Rahm, a two-time major champion, speaking to BBC Sport.

After the Saudi sovereign wealth fund withdrew its financing for the golf league, CEO Scott O’Neil revealed in August that a new investor was ready to back the league’s continuation under the name LIV 2.0. However, many questions remain—including what players like Rahm will do; he still has two years left on the multi-million dollar contract he signed in late 2023 after leaving the PGA Tour.

The rules applied by the US circuit for LIV players wishing to leave the league entail a one-year suspension starting from their last tournament—in this case, the Indianapolis event.

However, following the return of American Brooks Koepka, the PGA Tour proposed a comeback plan last February that included stars like Rahm and fellow American Bryson DeChambeau—LIV’s other major icon—but both rejected it.

If he does not participate in LIV 2.0, Rahm has the option of playing on the DP World Tour (DPWT) as a pathway back to the PGA Tour.

One possible scenario is for the former world number one to finish the season among the top ten on the European Order of Merit—he is currently ranked 31st. Doing so would earn him a PGA Tour card, though it remains unclear what conditions the tour would impose on him.
