Tranlate this title Robert MacIntyre names number of players fighting for Ryder Cup places in spanish

The Ryder Cup is a prestigious tournament that carries huge importance in the world of golf.

For many, this is the most important event, where we have two strong teams with many quality players. However, fans are already asking who will make Team USA and Team Europe at the next edition.

Robert MacIntyre believes around 20 European golfers currently have a realistic chance of making Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team in 2027.

Europe will defend the trophy at Adare Manor in Ireland next September after beating the United States at Bethpage Black in 2025. Donald will again be captain and will have many familiar names available, but several younger golfers are also pushing for a place.

The qualification process has already started, meaning performances during the coming months could become quite important. Six players will qualify automatically through the Ryder Cup Points List, while Donald will select another six himself.

MacIntyre has played in the last two Ryder Cups and knows how difficult it can be to secure a place. The Scot believes the current group of possible candidates is much bigger than only the players who represented Europe last time.

MacIntyre sees around 20 players fighting for places

“I think there’s probably 20 guys. Yeah, 20 guys, give or take, that I think have been playing at a level that can play the Ryder Cup. Fairly simple,” MacIntyre said.

“I mean, I’ve obviously done it in Rome at a certain level, and I know that was kind of the baseline for me. I always got to keep on keeping above that to be able to make the teams, and yeah, I’d say about 20 guys.”

MacIntyre has become an important member of the European team during the last few years. He made his Ryder Cup debut in Rome in 2023 and returned two years later when Donald’s team successfully defended the trophy in New York.

The 30-year-old will hope to make it three appearances in a row when Europe plays in Ireland. However, his comments show how much competition there could be for only 12 available places.

Several younger players are already attracting attention. Alex Fitzpatrick, Eugenio Chacarra, Kristoffer Reitan and Angel Ayora were all invited to join European players during a recent visit to Adare Manor.

Donald brought 15 golfers to the course, including ten members of the winning 2025 team. Nicolai Hojgaard, who played in Rome three years ago, was also part of the group.

Shane Lowry later joined them after winning the Irish Open. The players had dinner together before playing 18 holes at the Ryder Cup venue the following day.

Donald has started preparations quite early again. The former world No. 1 used similar team trips before Rome and Bethpage, and his European teams won both editions.

More competition for Donald’s team in 2027

The situation could look quite different by next summer. Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton, Justin Rose and MacIntyre have all played important roles in recent European teams, but none of them can simply expect a place.

The younger players will have almost an entire season to collect points and show Donald that they deserve a chance.

Fitzpatrick is one of the names attracting more attention after his progress during 2026. Chacarra has also produced great results, while Reitan and Ayora are trying to move closer to the established European players.

Donald will have six captain’s picks after the automatic qualification period finishes on August 22, 2027. That gives him a lot of freedom when deciding which players fit his plans at Adare Manor.

The captain has already visited the Irish course several times. Earlier this year, he explained that preparations had started even though the tournament was still far away.

“Had a good look at the golf course, had a good look at the hotel, and progress has started. Yeah, it’s early days, but we’re already ticking a few boxes and enjoying the journey again.”

Europe will also know that the United States are preparing for another difficult battle. The Americans recently defeated the International Team 17-13 at the Presidents Cup at Medinah, where several golfers hoping to play in the Ryder Cup next year had good performances.

Scottie Scheffler will almost certainly be one of the main names on the American side, while younger golfers such as Jackson Koivun are also giving the US team more options.

The Ryder Cup will return to Ireland for the first time since 2006. Europe won 18.5-9.5 at The K Club that year and will hope for another home victory at Adare Manor.

There is still a long way to go before Donald names his final 12 players.

The European captain has a serious task ahead of him, knowing that some golfers will not be happy with his decisions. In the end, his goal is to create the best possible team, one that can win the Ryder Cup again and delight European fans once more.
