Bryson DeChambeau has announced another golf project away from his normal tournament schedule, with the American putting $100,000 on the line in a competition played around his own home.

The 33-year-old revealed Bryson’s Backyard Games on Monday after teasing fans with an “I’m coming home” message on social media. Some followers thought the two-time US Open champion could be talking about his professional future, but the message was instead connected to his latest YouTube project.

Ten golfers will compete over 10 days, with one player eventually earning the chance to face DeChambeau himself for the money.

“Welcome to Backyard Games. Over the next 10 days, these 10 golfers will be competing in my backyard for the chance to play me for this $100,000,” DeChambeau said.

The format is quite different from a normal golf tournament. Players will meet in one-hole matches on unusual holes around his property, with the loser immediately leaving the competition.

“These players will be playing one-hole matches from a ton of crazy holes, all over my backyard until there’s only one player standing,” he said.

“The last player standing will play me in a three-hole match for $100,000.”

DeChambeau added a twist to the $100,000 prize

Reaching the last match does not mean the remaining player automatically receives the money.

The finalist will have to beat DeChambeau over three holes. If the challenger wins, the full $100,000 goes to that golfer. If the LIV Golf player wins, he will not keep the prize.

“If I win, then I’ll be giving it all away to one of my followers, so make sure to follow,” DeChambeau said.

Grant Horvat is one of the better-known names in the 10-player field. Wesley Bryan and his brother George Bryan are also taking part, with Brad Dalke, Chance Taylor, Rhett Anderson, Arlynn Spence, Sara Winter, Martin Borgmeier and Chazzy Bowker completing the group.

Horvat admitted that getting through the field may only create a bigger problem at the end.

“Yeah, I’m scared of Bryson. I’m very scared if I make it on, Bryson is the guy that really worries me,” Horvat said.

Wesley and George will also have a possible family battle during the event. George said eliminating his brother would “literally make my year,” while Wesley claimed he is the better golfer of the two.

Borgmeier, a former world long drive champion, believes the short format gives everyone some hope.

“Honestly, all I gotta do is get lucky,” he said. “There’s no strategy involved, no nothing, no finesse actually, but one good shot could happen at any time.”

The first match begins on Tuesday, September 22. Two players are selected at random and play one hole, with the winner moving forward and the loser going home. The competition is scheduled to continue across the next 10 days.

His backyard has already produced viral golf content

DeChambeau has used the same property for golf videos before, and one of his biggest social media projects also involved the green behind his house.

In November 2024, he tried to make a hole-in-one by hitting a ball over his home. The number of attempts increased each day, starting with one shot on the first day and two on the second.

The challenge finally ended on day 16 when DeChambeau made the shot on his 134th total attempt. The videos became one of his biggest online projects, drawing tens of millions of views across social media.

He later used a similar idea for another video in January 2025, when a contestant had a chance to win $100,000 by making a hole-in-one over the house.

Backyard Games now turns the property into a longer competition instead of one repeated shot.

The announcement also arrived at a time when there are questions around DeChambeau’s professional future. His original “I’m coming home” post caused speculation that it could involve the PGA Tour, which he left in 2022 to join LIV Golf.

That was not what Monday’s announcement was about. DeChambeau remains connected with LIV while the league works through changes ahead of 2027.

The American has also built a big audience away from regular tournaments through his YouTube channel. His videos have included the Breaking 50 series, equipment tests and matches with other professional golfers and celebrities.

Backyard Games continues that side of his career, with one short match planned at a time until only one golfer remains.

The last contestant will then have three holes to beat DeChambeau and take the $100,000. If the two-time US Open winner takes the final match, one of his followers will receive the money instead.
