LIV Golf is approaching one of the most important moments since its launch in 2022.

After years of huge spending and aggressive expansion, the league is now trying to prove that it can survive without the financial support that allowed it to challenge the traditional golf establishment.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund confirmed earlier this year that it would stop funding LIV after the 2026 season.

Since then, CEO Scott O’Neil and the league’s management have been searching for new investment and developing a different business model for 2027 and beyond. A lead investor has been found, but the final agreement is still not completed and O’Neil recently admitted that LIV is working with a “very compressed timeline.”

The problems have gone beyond investment. The planned Team Championship in Michigan was cancelled, while reports of unpaid vendors and payments owed to some players have created more doubts. O’Neil insists the plan is to continue, with a smaller schedule and greater player ownership, but he has also admitted that keeping enough important golfers is essential for the new investment deal.

That puts even more attention on Bryson DeChambeau. The American has become perhaps the league’s most recognizable player, and his current contract expires after this season.

DeChambeau’s short message raises questions

The two-time US Open champion caused a lot of speculation with his latest Instagram post after the conclusion of the LIV season.

DeChambeau uploaded a collection of pictures showing some of his biggest moments from the last four years and added a very short caption:

“It was a good run.”

There was no direct mention of leaving LIV Golf, so the post cannot be treated as confirmation of his departure. However, the timing immediately made it interesting.

The 32-year-old has also committed to playing the Nedbank Golf Challenge in December, his first appearance on the DP World Tour since 2022. With his LIV contract expiring and the league still trying to secure its long-term future, that decision has only increased speculation about what comes next.

His years with LIV have certainly been successful financially and competitively. He has won five individual titles, while Crushers GC have collected 11 regular-season team victories. According to HITC, DeChambeau earned more than $15 million during the 2026 campaign alone.

Still, his social-media message feels very different when placed alongside everything happening around the league. It could simply be a reflection on another completed season, but it could also be interpreted as a farewell.

Bryson has repeatedly fought for LIV’s future

What makes the latest post more surprising is that DeChambeau has spent much of 2026 publicly supporting LIV.

When reports first emerged that PIF would stop providing funding, he remained determined to find a solution. In April, he said he felt a responsibility to help because of the effort he had already put into the project.

“We’re going to make this work,” he said at the time, while also stressing that he continued to see value in the franchise model.

A month later, his tone became more realistic. Bryson admitted that PIF’s decision had surprised the players, saying they did not expect the financial backing to disappear so quickly.

Still, he maintained that the setback did not necessarily mean the end. His view was essentially that one door had closed and another could open, while he remained optimistic that team golf could become a sustainable business.

He also made clear how much effort he was willing to put into keeping the project alive.

“We’ll see if investors like it or not. I’m giving all I can to make it happen,” DeChambeau said in May.

His comments became even more interesting during the final event of the season in Indianapolis. By then, the uncertainty surrounding the league had become impossible to ignore.

“It’s not easy. We definitely have a lot against us,” he admitted.

However, he again pointed to the fans, international events and economic impact LIV had produced in places including Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. Rather than abandoning the idea, he asked the golf world to remain open-minded.

“My wish is that people give us one more shot,” was his message.

Those words make “It was a good run” particularly difficult to interpret. DeChambeau has gone from saying LIV was something he wanted to help save to posting what sounds, at least on the surface, like a goodbye.

There is still no confirmation that he intends to leave. O’Neil recently described Bryson as a major advocate for LIV and said he hopes the American remains part of its future.
