“He just congratulated us and said that was fantastic golf,” DeChambeau said.

“I told him how tough his golf course is. I got my butt kicked this week, that’s for sure.

That was really all we talked about. Whenever we go to the properties, they’ve been great to us. The hospitality is amazing. They treat us well. All their staff are amazing.”

Trump National Golf Club Bedminster has hosted LIV Golf on several occasions and has established a reputation as one of the more challenging courses on the league’s schedule.

The difference between DeChambeau and Joaquin Niemann demonstrated just how well the Chilean played. Niemann completed the week at 16-under, finishing 23 strokes ahead of the Crushers GC captain.

Niemann opened with rounds of 64 and 65 to take control of the tournament. Although Harold Varner III attempted to apply pressure during the weekend, the Torque GC captain responded with a crucial eagle at the par-five 15th hole in the final round.

A closing 69 secured a three-stroke victory over Varner and gave Niemann his ninth LIV Golf title. It was his second win of the season, having also defeated Talor Gooch in a playoff at LIV Golf Korea.

Trump was impressed by Niemann’s performance, and DeChambeau said the US President was supportive of the eventual champion.

“All positive things to say, and we just appreciated it and thanked him. Then he said, great job and congratulations,” DeChambeau said.

“He was supportive of it, and then obviously supportive of Joaquín and how well he did on his golf course.

He was really impressed with Joaquin, that’s for sure.”

DeChambeau must move on from season-long title disappointment

DeChambeau’s performance in New York was not representative of his entire 2026 season. Earlier in the campaign, the American won consecutive tournaments in Singapore and South Africa.

He defeated Richard T. Lee in a playoff in Singapore before beating Rahm in another playoff one week later in South Africa. Those victories took DeChambeau’s total to five individual LIV Golf titles.

His form put him in a strong position to challenge Rahm, but the Spaniard continued to produce consistent results throughout the season. Rahm won in Hong Kong and Mexico City, while also recording three runner-up finishes.

DeChambeau remains second in the individual standings, but he no longer has a mathematical opportunity to catch Rahm. His challenge now is to finish the season positively and ensure that he retains second place.

The two-time major champion will also want to avoid allowing one disappointing tournament to overshadow the progress he has made. DeChambeau has been one of LIV Golf’s most important figures since joining the league and remains one of the most popular golfers in the world.
