The Englishmen finished the tournament with a record total of 31 under par (257 strokes), but only after squandering a four-point lead on the final nine holes.

The decisive moment came on the 18th hole, a par-5 of about 535 meters. Matt, currently ranked third in the world, hit a spectacular putt from the bunker, leaving the ball just 30 centimeters from the hole. Alex, 27 and a regular on the DP World Tour, smiled, putted his head, and marked the ball, knowing that a seemingly given putt would change his career. When the ball went in, Alex crouched, covering his face with one hand, then stood up and hugged his older brother, who was running toward him.
