McIlroy said that a lot of the pressure has now been lifted and that he has a clear path for future success. One thing that has long bothered him was the fact that he has never won a green jacket before. 

The famous golfer waited 11 years to achieve it, and now, having achieved his dream, he wants to simply enjoy the moment, even though it has been almost a year since he won the Masters.

“Absolutely. I think pressure off here, most importantly.

I think that one of the things that was always holding me back at this tournament was the fact that I had never done it, and I’d had chances.

2011 always felt like it was still sort of in the periphery. And so I think just to shed all of that will make, if I… hopefully when I do get myself back into contention at this tournament, it makes it a little bit easier to deal with.”

Recovery

Rory McIlroy spent the last three weeks before the Masters at home, looking to recover from a back injury that kept him out of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. McIlroy pointed out that he feels safe on the course and in his game. According to the 36-year-old, the three weeks at home were great preparation for what’s to come, especially now that he feels significantly less pressure and wants to enjoy every moment.

«There’s still a lot that I want to do,» he said. «You think every time you achieve something or have success that you’ll be happy, but then the goalposts move, and they just keep nudging a little bit further and further out of reach.

«I think what I’ve realized is, if you can just really find enjoyment in the journey, that’s the big thing because honestly I felt like the career Grand Slam was my destination, and I got there, and then I realized it wasn’t the destination.»

Most stress that Scottie Scheffler is the main favorite, while others believe that Rory, relieved of the pressure, will be able to defend the title.
