«I feel like if anything motivates me after what happened at Augusta this year, it does so more than ever,» McIlroy said Wednesday in Quail Hollow, the site of this week’s PGA tournament and where he earned his first Tour victory in 2010.

But when McIlroy had a moment to reflect on what this latest major victory meant to him, the 37-year-old Northern Irishman realized that this new trophy only motivates him to pursue the next one with even more determination. «I felt that winning the Grand Slam was going to be something that would change my life,» he said.

He believes so. «In a way, it was. But on the other hand, I had to remind myself, ‘No, I still have a lot of my career left, and I want to keep playing and competing.’ So I think winning this year was the reward for all the work I’ve put in over the last few years to get back to this point where I’m winning majors. I’m excited about what the future holds,» Rory explained before the tournament.

Before turning his attention to the PGA Championship next week, McIlroy arrived in North Carolina as the tournament’s top-ranked player. The No. 2 seed, McIlroy, will not have to face No. 1 Scottie Scheffler this week. He feels refreshed after a short break from the golf course.

McIlroy said he traveled to New York with his wife, Erica, and attended the State Dinner at the White House. «I took 10 days to enjoy myself, and then I thought I needed to get back on the driving range and prepare for this next stage,» he said. The Truist Championship is a flagship PGA Tour event with a $20 million prize purse. McIlroy won the tournament in 2024, and four of his thirty victories have come at Quail Hollow (2010, 2015, 2021).
