“I don’t feel like I haven’t won anything,” Jon Rahm reflected on October 12th after finishing tied for ninth at the Spanish Open. He was nearing the end of 2025, a year in which individual tournament victories had eluded him. But Rahm was convinced he was on the right track to bring them back.
Jon Rahm, situation
He was a Ryder Cup champion after having been a key member of the European team in September, and he had also won the overall title at the 54th World Championship for the second year in a row. Therefore, he felt it had been a positive year and, above all, he was confident that, given his level of play, victories would come sooner rather than later.
In only one of the thirteen tournaments played last season on the LIV did he finish outside the top 10 (eleventh in Dallas). But he lacked the finishing touch, with four second-place finishes (Riyadh, Andalusia, Chicago, and Indianapolis). However, what had been a year-long hurdle has been overcome in a big way in just a few weeks.
Rahm now has two victories in the six tournaments of the season on the Saudi circuit. Champion in Hong Kong at the beginning of March, he added the title in Mexico City this weekend. It’s the reward for always being in the fight, with three second-place finishes and a fifth this season as well.
That performance, plus the added bonus of finishing it off, makes him the solid leader of the LIV in his quest for a third consecutive title. Following Bryson DeChambeau’s retirement in the fourth round in Mexico City, Rahm has surged to 779 points in the overall standings, leaving the American (476.90) and Thomas Detry (251.90) far behind. This shows that, after winning the overall title last year without any stage wins, he continues to dominate the LIV circuit with an iron fist.
The two tournament victories help clear one of the scores Rahm had been carrying since 2025. But, despite a year without a win in that area, they also solidify his place among the top players in LIV victories since its inception in 2022.
To these two successes, Rahm adds those he achieved in the UK and Chicago in 2024, becoming the fourth player, tied, with the most partial victories in LIV. Chilean Joaquín Niemann has seven, followed by Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau with five each. Jon ties Talor Gooch with four and already has his sights set on those top positions.
The next event will be in Virginia at the beginning of May. Unconcerned by the rumors surrounding the LIV’s uncertain future, away from the PGA Tour spotlight, and lacking confidence at the recent Masters, Rahm, still determined to return to form in the majors, continues to more than settle his score with the LIV tournaments he started last year.
Most LIV Tournament Wins
7 Joaquín Niemann
5 Brooks Koepka
5 Bryson DeChambeay
4 Talor Gooch
