Namely, according to reports, PIF, the Saudi Investment Fund, could stop investing in LIV Golf after the end of the season. While this stirs up negative emotions among LIV fans, on the other hand, PGA Tour leaders seem to be rubbing their hands together with satisfaction.

At the beginning of this year, the news of Brooks Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour came as a bolt from the blue. The famous golfer had previously expressed some dissatisfaction, but the situation has not changed much. 

Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are the names being talked about more and more when it comes to a possible return to the PGA Tour after the end of this season.

However, the question is whether they will have the same treatment as Koepka or whether their return will have more serious consequences, both financial and other. 

According to Golfweek’s sources, the duo could have a much tougher road back. 

«There was respect and enthusiasm for Koepka. Maybe less respect for [Patrick] Reed, but understanding that his path was different and respect that he was willing to earn that path. This will be a much more difficult path back because of the changed circumstances, and the suit by Bryson. The bar is much higher this time.»

While Koepka returned through a special returnee program, with the condition that he donates $5 million to charity, forgoes his FedEx Cup bonus for this year and earn his way into the bumper prize purse signature events, Rahm and DeChambeau could have a more difficult path back.

Rahm and DeChambeau had the opportunity to return in the same way, but they did not want to leave LIV Golf. According to sources, their return could be problematic as they are not particularly popular with the current players. 

PGA Tour fans, as well as players, have not forgotten that DeChambeau was among 11 players suing the PGA Tour in 2022.

Jon Rahm reacted

Jon Rahm told Spanish media last week that he doesn’t want to think too much about the future and is focusing on the challenges ahead. The Spanish golfer does not want to show any concern considering that much is unknown, both for LIV Golf and for the golf world in general.

«Until the people in charge here tell me something concrete, I’m not going to waste my time thinking about it,» he said. 

«I have a signed contract, and everyone here gets paid. I don’t see any reason to worry. What I have to do is play golf.»

Bryson DeChambeau said that he still believes in LIV Golf, stressing that as long as this project exists, he will do everything to make it meaningful. 

He is still negotiating with league leaders about a contract extension. However, it seems that if PIF leaves the project, it would be difficult to finance such a contract.

He was recently praised by Scott O’Neil, CEO of LIV Golf, who said Bryson is one of the most dedicated golfers who truly has a special connection to LIV.

The 32-year-old has often defended this project, stating that LIV is a project with a clear vision and goals.

If the Saudi investment fund really stops financing this project, there could be a complete reversal. Thus, a significant number of LIV golfers would strive to return to the PGA Tour, a golf tour with tradition and prestige.

However, it’s hard to say how open fans and PGA Tour leaders are to their return. There is no doubt that we have an interesting year ahead of us, especially the end of this season where many questions could be answered.

Most feared the arrival of LIV Golf, believing that this particular tour could dominate the world of golf and attract some of the best players through money. They did not fully fulfill the goals they set at the beginning, and it is clear that LIV Golf is far from what was expected to become.
