The PGA TOUR Champions will arrive in Europe for the first time with some of golf’s biggest names, including World Golf Hall of Famers Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie, already confirmed to compete for a $3 million purse at The Els Club Vilamoura from July 27 to August 2, 2026.

The event marks the first PGA TOUR-sanctioned individual stroke-play tournament to be held in Portugal, and its inaugural edition will bring together major champions, Ryder Cup legends, and some of the most decorated players in golf history to one of Europe’s most coveted destinations.

A field of 78 players will compete on the new course designed by four-time major champion Ernie Els, kicking off a five-year partnership between PGA TOUR Champions, Arrow Global Group, Turismo de Portugal, and Turismo do Algarve, in what promises to be a milestone for the global growth.

European Ryder Cup royalty will also be present: Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, who was part of the winning team in four of his five appearances, along with Spain’s Miguel Ángel Jiménez, will compete in Ernie Els’ first design in Europe.

American Stewart Cink will return to the country where he competed in the World Golf Championships in 2005, while his compatriot and 12-time PGA Tour winner, Justin Leonard, has also joined the battle to become the first PGA TOUR Champions in Portugal.

Ernie Els, host of the tournament and whose first private members’ club in Europe opened its doors in July of last year, pointed to the quality of the players already confirmed. «It shows what this event means.
