According to the Financial Times, the reason is not so much the circuit’s financial performance, but rather a strategic reorganization due to current geopolitical events. There is talk that the change could be immediate or that the season could be allowed to finish. LIV Golf was, in principle, guaranteed to operate until 2030.

Speculation began on several specialized accounts on the social media platform X. «I have fairly reliable sources, and I’ve heard that other people also have information that LIV is going to close,» stated golf reporter Ryan French from the X account Monday Q Info, which has nearly 200,000 followers.

Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee also predicted the end of LIV Golf, which launched in 2022 with lucrative contracts for former PGA Tour stars such as Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Phil Mickelson.

“The product was so poorly conceived and ended up being worse than anyone could have imagined,” Chamblee wrote in X. “With shotgun starts, initially 54 holes, a team concept that was nothing short of ludicrous, tournaments that meant nothing and still mean nothing, and such a negligible number of spectators, losing billions along the way… would anyone be surprised if the Saudis came to their senses and finally put an end to this whole pointless circuit?”

Other reports indicated that LIV was not experiencing any apparent financial problems.

“I’ve spoken directly with several people at LIV and they all say they haven’t had any issues with payment,” Flushing It Golf wrote in X. “Future venues are proceeding as planned, with no indication that anything will change. And the players are preparing to tee off in today’s pro-am, fully expecting the LIV Golf tournament in Mexico City to go ahead as scheduled.”
