Spain’s Pablo Ereno has won his first HotelPlanner Tour title in his home country. He won the Challenge de Catalunya, held at the Fontanals Golf Club (par 72), with a 266 (67, 69, 64, 66, -22) shot, in Girona. He finished tied with Denmark’s Hamish Brown (266 – 69, 64, 65, 68) and then overtook him with a par on the second play-off hole.

In third place with a 268 (-20) were Ireland’s Gary Hurley, England’s Frank Kennedy, and South Africa’s MJ Daffue, the leader of the Road to Mallorca (order of merit). In sixth place with a 269 (-19) were Denmark’s Jacob Worm Agerschou, Sweden’s Adam Wallin, and South Africa’s Bryce Easton.

Lorenzo Scalise (65, 72, 74, 67) and Matteo Cristoni (72, 67, 71, 68) finished in 43rd place with 278 (-10), while Jacopo Vecchi Fossa, 93rd with 142 (68, 74, -2), and Alessandro Nodari, 119th with 145 (70, 65, +1) failed to make the cut.

Ereno began the final round in second place, two shots behind Brown, who was in the lead, and with a 66 (-6, ten birdies, two bogeys, one double bogey) he caught him on the final hole. In the playoff, both players birdied the first overtime, then Brown couldn’t avoid a bogey on the second.

Pablo Ereno, a 22-year-old from Madrid and recently turned pro, made his sixth appearance of the season, after finishing third and fourth. He rose from 12th to second place in the ranking and was rewarded with a check for 48,000 euros out of a prize pool of 300,000 euros.
