Rich Beem, former PGA champion, commented on Bryson DeChambeau’s statements, as well as the possibility of his return.

When asked if the PGA Tour needs DeChambeau back, Beem said it doesn’t.

“No, they don’t,“ Beem said.

“He is not bigger than the game. He said that I can’t believe they are doing that [the sanctions] and then four sentences later he said ‘the egos need to be dropped’. Who are you? Who is this guy?»

Richard Beem believes that Bryson DeChambeau’s statements are illogical and without any foundation. Beem expects Bryson DeChambeau to focus most of his attention on his performances on the golf course rather than commenting on golf events.

“You can’t make this up. [He said] Everybody needs to come in with a level playing field with an opportunistic mindset to grow the game of golf. As entertaining as he is on the golf course, what comes out of his mouth can be highly entertaining too. You are a self proclaimed scientist but you are not a politician!”

Beem thinks the PGA Tour doesn’t need Bryson, stressing the game goes on even without the legends of the sport.

“Here is the reason why I say the PGA does not need him. One is that nobody is bigger than the game. If Jack Nicklaus or Arnold Palmer walked away in their prime, the game would have gone on without them.”

According to the former PGA champion, Bryson DeChambeau should focus on YouTube, given that it is on such a social media platform that he can control what he says.

“I think what he is doing with YouTube might be right up his alley,” Beem said.

“I mean that seems to be where he is most comfortable because he gets to control the narrative and what is put out there. He gets to control what he says and how he says it because they can go back and edit it. Where it gets into a live audience that is not the case.”

Bryson DeChambeau’s personality

Richard Beem reminded of the contrast in the personality of Bryson DeChambeau, who often makes controversial statements. He reflected on the moment when Bryson was frustrated as Rory didn’t want to talk to him during the final round.

Beem believes that this is redundant and that the golfer should put the greatest focus on his game rather than on his opponent.

“We have seen good and bad Bryson. I think even great Bryson when he is at his best,” Beem added.

So we get these two different, polar opposite, individuals whenever we talk about them. And the PGA Tour does not need him.“ he said.

Richard Beem claims that Bryson DeChambeau can focus on majors and YouTube, but he also addressed the European tour.

Beem thinks DeChambeau might consider joining the European Tour, especially seeing him in tournaments like Dubai and again in India. He emphasized that Bryson often talks about expanding golf to new markets and bringing the sport to audiences in different languages through his YouTube content.

Still, the former PGA champion questioned how long DeChambeau would be able to maintain his online popularity if he didn’t achieve big results and regularly appear on television during major tournaments. In his view, relying solely on YouTube without success at the majors could reduce audience interest over time.

Beem noted that the PGA Tour could eventually reopen the door to DeChambeau, but he believes the golfer would have to face serious consequences and pay a heavy fine before then, no matter how hard the decision was.
