«You don’t work hard to play crap. The last couple of years have been frustrating. I feel like I’ve been putting in the work and not really getting anything out of it.»

Last week already, there were rumors of a split between Smith and his longtime coach Grant Field. Their cooperation had been going on for almost 23 years.

Cameron Smith shared before the start of the PGA Championship that he started working with Claude Harmon III, the son of legendary coach Butch Harmon. According to the Australian, cooperation with Harmon brought him a lot of positivity and good feelings about the future.

«We’ve managed to clean up a few things that were perhaps a little bit off,» Smith said. «I feel like I’ve got a lot more confidence in my swing.»

The hardest phone call

Cameron Smith also spoke about parting ways with Field, noting that it was probably one of the hardest phone calls he had to make. Such decisions often carry various dilemmas, but every golfer strives to advance in his career, sometimes sacrificing some other things. «It was probably one of the most difficult phone calls I’ve ever had to make.

It’s still kind of lingering, but I feel like I’ve made the right call. I can see it in my golf and my strike of the ball and seeing some different shots. It’s been nice.» he continued.

As already pointed out, Cameron Smith was considered one of the strongest players on the PGA Tour. His departure and joining LIV Golf sparked an avalanche of reaction, mostly negative. The Australian, on the other hand, had no doubts whether to accept the incredible financial offer, ready to turn a new chapter in his career.

However, the turbulence in LIV Golf forced the Saudi investment fund to stop investing in the controversial league.

Several rumors have been circulating over the past few weeks that Cameron Smith may end his career, following the example of some of his colleagues.

When asked about such rumours, Cameron Smith seemed somewhat shocked, saying that the question surprised him, but that his intentions were still to give his best and strive for progress. The most important thing for Cameron Smith is that there is still fire in him.

«I’m 32, so I have got a while yet. Gee, I haven’t been asked that question before.

I can promise you, the fire is in the belly, it’s just a matter of time. I don’t think time is running out on my major career by any means.» he said.

Cameron Smith’s future

The next challenge for the experienced Australian will be the LIV Golf tournament in Korea from May 28 to 31. Most are wondering if Cameron Smith can take his form to the next level in the rest of the season after such an outstanding performance in fierce competition.

With his last performance, he really proved that he belongs to the very top of golf, but consistency is necessary for major progress.
