Although Chamblee is one of the main critics of LIV Golf, his sympathy for Jon Rahm remains, even though the Spaniard drew a barrage of criticism by joining the Saudi-backed Tour.

Chamblee reminds that the previous tournaments showed a high level of play, but what is most important for the fans is the excitement and adrenaline that matches of this level bring. 

That is why he is optimistic about Rahm, who is playing in excellent form. 

“If it were Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler as it was at the PGA last year, coming down the stretch, Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, it would just be an incredibly compelling event to watch.

“They’re never dull, but it does feel like some of the majors the last couple of years have just gone to a different level of drama and excitement and quality. They’ve been amazing. The fallout of the fracture of the game at least, gives us a Ryder Cup feel in these major championships.”

Although last year was challenging, he managed to win the LIV title thanks to the league’s points system. This season, in five LIV tournaments, he finished in the top two four times, which is a great introduction to this year’s Masters. 

Many give him great chances, as Scheffler and McIlroy are currently out of form. We will see if the Spaniard can take advantage of this momentum.

Victory at the 2023 Masters

Spanish golfer Jon Rahm was the winner of the 2023 edition of the Masters in Augusta, the first «major» tournament of the year.

For Rahm, it was the second major of his career, having won the US Open in 2021, and he claimed it with a score of 12 under par over four rounds.

Americans Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka finished four strokes behind, sharing second place, while five other Americans – Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, and Russell Henley – shared fourth place.

Before the final round, Rahm was in second place, two strokes behind Koepka, but on the last day, during a head-to-head duel with Koepka, Rahm scored 69 strokes, three under par, while Koepka finished the round with 75 strokes, three over par.

The turnaround came during the first six holes of the final round, when Rahm scored three strokes better than Koepka to take the lead by one. He soon extended his advantage to two strokes, but it was the crucial 14th hole where Rahm made a birdie and Koepka a bogey, pushing the lead to an unassailable five strokes.
